Born Free Records tell it exactly like it is. With a consistent stream of dance music releases following a monochrome textbook aesthetic, their no-frills approach to disseminating far-spanning dance music is both evident and effective. And, despite the distinctive lo-fi-ness, the calibre of music is second to none. Born Free bosses and Stockholm's duo Sling & Samo have used the label to premiere music from the likes of Axel Boman, Baba Stiltz and Jaakko Eino Kalevi – as well as sounds of their own. This month they introduce their second release by enigmatic Tokyo-based producer Powder. Her Born Free follow-up to the Spray EP comes in the form of a three-track variety show of quirky electronic sounds. Our pick of the bunch – "Fridhemsplan" – takes a more serious turn from the A side. Delving into quietly bubbling analogue sounds layered up as opposed to progressing throughout – all reminiscent of your favourite minimal producer from Berlin.

Late 80s South African dance floor winners only! Selected by DJ Okapi and Antal, the compilation holds tracks by Jivaro, The Hard Workers, Ayobayo Band, S.Y.B. & many more. This is the sharp electronic music that fuelled the local Pantsula dances during the 80s and 90s . A must have for fans of Bubblegum and Kwaito music. 

The 12 tracks selected for Pantsula! come from a very unique, very different time and place. They represent the birth of electronic dance music in South Africa, through the songs of one particular independent label from the time: Music Team. The sound represents the culmination of the bubblegum era, when South Africa’s disco artists outgrew their American influences and forged an increasingly electronic and ‘local’ pop sound.

Evolving over time since long before the 80s, the distinctly South African subculture of Pantsula is more closely associated with an attitude, a style and a signature dance, rather than any specific sound. In the late 1980s and early 90s, Pantsula was also the name given to a new type of dance music taking over the streets of South Africa, influenced by earlier bubblegum and the rise of Shangaan Disco, but with a far broader appeal and a harder, purely electronic sound.

A heartfelt dedication to his son Isaias, ‘Aspirations for Young Xol’ takes us through the life of a pillar in the electronic music community - Santiago Salazar. From his formative years spent in California to his connection with Detroit and the passing of a childhood friend, the long-player’s tracks signpost the musician’s significant experiences, both positive and negative. This meaningful body of work was released digitally on Pastel Voids and now Rekids release the album on wax.

‘Saturated Fear’ sets a deep tone for the LP, flanging melodies and echoing claps float through the composition before the album’s title track ‘Aspirations for Young Xol’ offers haunting arpeggios with occasional acidic overtones which are cleverly offset by beautifully designed lead synth transitions. ‘Bloodlines’ follows a similar musical vein with delayed bass riffs that are suspended above shimmering hihats and a weighted kick.

Santiago provides three beatless pieces throughout, which digress into more emotional territory whilst offering brief respite from his heavier drum work. ‘Xol’s Pain’ combines orchestral strings and swelling synthesisers which build tension with a subtly complex, evolving motif. Both ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Ode to Stinson’ use arresting atmospheres, warped arpeggios and ethereal pads which lull the listener into a retrospective mood.

An intensity builds in the later tracks, a gritty but powerful low end provides a solid foundation in ‘Orange Blossom Thump”, eventually making way for a hectic and elastic lead synth before ‘Pachuco Dub’ displays drones that build a dissonant pressure in which the complex tom rhythms and rolling hi hats can grow. ‘Sarah Rivera’ hypnotises with its delectable chord progressions and complimentary melodies which seem to float above a rigid drum composition to close the album with style.

Photonz is the alias of Marco Rodrigues a DJ, producer and driving force of Lisbon's underground scene. For little over a decade now, he's been crafting his own deeply personal style of Portuguese house and techno for labels such as Créme Organization, 20:20 Vision, Don't Be Afraid, Skylax, Unknown To The Unknown and his own One Eyed Jacks.
Nuit is Photonz’s debut album and a simultaneous reference the Egyptian Goddess of the Stars or Night. Marco was really swept away by the concept of ‘freedom of form under the night sky’, the accepting embrace of Nuit. Ancestral, but also socially advanced and utopian; a deification of the night time.
Avalon. Legend the isle of the dead, an island paradise in the west where King Arthur and other heroes are taken after death. Founded in 2009, the internationalist label Cómeme has established itself as a mobile home, a dance music caravan joined and nurtured by artists from BsAs, Joburg, Medellín, Bucharest, México, Köln and many more places on the planet. Cómeme aims to become a place for diversity, irreverence, musical insurgency and freedom.

Fond of creating audio in home studio ,nowadays only 4  friends, in different music programs and sequencers. Also sometimes like to make some mixes and sets but also 4 friends yet. In future i would like to take place in any techno label  to bring innovations in music 4 techno and electronic massive.
