First up for The Mix is Danny From Miami 🌴

@dannydaze takes us on a trip through Miami dance music history, diving into the irregular rhythms he grew up with and nodding to the new wave of flag-bearers. It also features an in-depth interview, exploring  his journey from childhood DJing to time in prison to rising up as Miami’s favourite figurehead, and the first explanation of the concept behind his long-awaited debut album ‘::BLUE::’.

"With this mix, my intention is to show a side of the IDM world I grew up with, steering away from the misconception that IDM is chaotic kitchen utensil-like sounds. I wanted to show a softer side focused on “danceable IDM” and electro. Music you can still bop your head to. As a youngster, I grew up dancing to non-traditional rhythms coming out of labels like M3rck, Schematic, and Beta Bodega, so I wanted to represent quite a bit of this Miami-infused sound along with some newer acts I’ve been immensely into at the moment," he says.

The Mix is our new online mix and interview series, dedicated to the spectrum of electronic music from around the globe, exploring sounds and stories from the early days of rave to the future. 

Mixmag has a long history of publishing mixes, from our legendary cover CDs accompanying the print magazine to our worldwide video streams in The Lab. Last year we celebrated 40 years in the game and The Mix now arrives as a fresh outlet to document DJs and the musical movements they represent, showcasing their sound alongside an in-depth interview. The design pays homage to a previous Mixmag logo from the ealy ’90s, nodding to our heritage while using the square and rectangular building blocks to construct an aesthetic that works cohesively with contemporary design elements and digital motion systems. 

We’ll still be bringing you the Cover Mix, The Lab and occasional sets in other formats, with The Mix is taking the place of our In Session and Impact features, intending to bring an updated look and vision to our flagship weekly DJ profile and sequencing them into one place, without separation. We hope you enjoy.

The Mix 001: Danny Daze

This weeks mix is from @d1rcceu an IsBurning and Amsterdam dancefloor favorite. 
Always delvering the best energy and dancemoves and also a super DJ! 

Dircceu is a Brazilian multi-artist and DJ based in Amsterdam, originally from São Paulo. He constructs his own narratives — blending techno, house, disco, breakbeats, and Afro-diasporic sounds with emotional depth, heritage, and futurism.

With this mix he showcases his diverse taste while blending it smoothly and takes you higher with infections melodies and grooves! 

Track highlight:

Paranoid London – Loving U (AAAA)
This track is part of a hypnotic, seductive tension groove that evokes the essence of classic acid house, with unpolished sounds and rebellious attitude. It's aesthetics are influenced by early Chicago acid. I chose it to represent the atmosphere I like to build: sensual, energetic, nostalgic and underground. It blends movements with immersive introspection, guiding the listener into a dancing journey state of mind.

Mike Servito's closing set from 10:30am until noon at No Way Back, May 25, 2025, Day 2 of Return to the Source at Tangent, Detroit. 

"Mike Servito is an artist intertwined with his Detroit origins. No matter how far he travels and how long he lives elsewhere, the essential imprint of this city remains in everything he does.

If you asked where this mix was recorded, I would say "Detroit" without hesitation and if I thought about it for a bit, I would guess that it was most likely one of Mike's legendary closing sets at No Way Back at Tangent Gallery. The level of care and reverence that go into these sets is very evident in this mix from start to finish. The track selection moves effortlessly from past to future playing with darkness and light, depth and joy, tension and release. It's a remarkable demonstration of taste and skill but also a paean to Mike's personal artistic history that calls to the creative power center that Detroit comprises. This mix provides a true glimpse into Mike's long-term dedication to the art of working in tandem with the dancefloor, creating a shared journey where the challenge is to let go and just trust the DJ."

For our next podcast we head out to the Far East, specifically to Chiba in Japan, where the cult favourite DJ Nobu resides. From there the man behind legendary party Future Terror and esteemed label Bitta has been putting out weird electronics, spacey electro and atmospheric techno since the late 90s. He releases rather infrequently, but when he does you can be sure he never does the same trick twice. It is the same story when he is DJing: he always manages to conjure up fresh tricks, textures and tunes depending on the situation and has put out many official mix CDs to that end. From contemporary electronic pieces to abstract techno, his wide repertoire has made him a favourite with the likes of the Berghain crew and Hessle Audio associate Ben UFO, who played with him recently at the Red Bull Music Academy, whilst he also played a stand out set on Boiler Room at our own Dekmantel festival earlier in the year.

The podcast he has put together for us is just over an hour of occult ambient littered with the sounds of the Far East. It is patient and absorbing, zoned out and eerie as well as being hugely organic and natural sounding. Drums only appear in the latter half and when they do, they still come embellished with pixel thin pads, metallic surfaces and harmonic sounds that continue to sooth your mind in fresh new ways. 

Dekmantel Podcast 042 - DJ Nobu

It's a special laidback radio mixed compilation of very intimate sounds from various parts of the world; it makes you travel smoothely from Belgium, to Greece, to Japan into naïve emotional spheres. There is a big cinematic touch in it, which obviously is inspiring and influencing myself very much on my own music.
