This week’s mix comes from Jake Miller, 1/5 of the new Reggae crew ‘Youth Downbeat Sound’. Jake has spent the last few years working in the legendary London record shop Flashback Records and is a serious collector of all things Reggae. He has a monthly show on Kindred Radio exploring all different kinds of vinyl crackle and will be launching a new hand built sound system with his crew in May. This week he has dug deep into his dusty 7’s box and brought us a 100% Studio One singles mix. “Here’s a selection of Studio 1 classics, all on 45 for your listening pleasure!”. What we have got here is a mix of soundtracks and cut up samples from 70s (and two or three late 60s) Poliziotteschi/Italian Crime movies. Same procedure as with https://soundcloud.com/rflx/give-me-convenience: lots of original soundtracks combined with some prototypical quotes and sounds from the genre. Besides a handful of scratch sounds no other material besides the scores, samples and FX were used to create this mix. Enjoy!

This is a mix I´ve made in 2008 to celebrate the release of my 3rd compilation "African Scream Contest". At the time I was told that this selection had reached cult status after being downloaded a few thousand times on the formidable PARIS DJs platform. But, to the surprise of many, few billion people seemed to have missed it, so here it is again!!!

In Hour 2 we continue the African theme with Egon from Now Again and a selection of music from the continent of Africa and elsewhere, recorded at the excellent Brilliant Corners in London. We don't have a tracklist, but there is music from K Frimpong, Ebo Taylor, Rail Band from Mali and as you'd expect plenty more rare pieces of vinyl. Egon started Now Again having been general manager at Stones Throw and involved with releases by J Dilla, Madlib and MF Doom amongst others. A whole host of reissues and compilations from around the world followed as well as new artists and this month he releases 'Welcome To Zamrock Vols 1 & 2', unearthing some amazing pieces of music from Zambia from the 70's. Both volumes are presented as 2LPs and also as a full 104-page hardcover book with CD containing rare tracks by WITCH, Amanaz, Paul Ngozi, Chrissy Zebby Tembo, Five Revolutions, Dr. Footswitch and every important Zamrock band.

A delectably global and heavy selection of handpicked rare and beautiful tropical tracks from 1965-1981 comprising Caribbean Merengue, Brasilian Samba-Funk & Balanco, Angolan Semba*, Indian Cabaret Jazz, Funky Thai Luk-Thung, Cuban Cumbia, Afro-Antillean Tumbele, Funky Nassau Soul, Benin Vodoun Afro-Beat, Senegalese Afro-Latin, traditional Wassoulou of Mali, and ended with a melancholic, nationalist 70s Angolan melody that can still serve as a rallying cry for an afflicted Africa.  Compiled & mixed by yours truly.  Best enjoyed at a ferociously loud volume. Good (time) traveling!
