KEY, aka Maiko Okimoto is a MC, singer, producer based in Tokyo, Japan. Originally from living-in-Tochigi.
During her teenage years, while being involved in several bands as a vocalist and guitarist, she immersed herself in music production and audio engineering.
She soon became hooked on Drum & Bass after first going to local night “Rock Baby Soundsystem”.Then she started her career as MC in 2006, began performing regularly in various party in Tokyo and hosting “Human Elements”.
She is also known as a singer, has worked with producers like Naibu, Heavy1, Ena, Velocity, to name a few.
Currently she is performing live sets of her own productions.

Here's my latest EP on Plak records.

This one means quite a lot to me, as i've been spending the better of the past year and a half honing my skills and acquiring gear to develop a "my" sound further. Working more with tones and rythms.
It's slightly needless to say how stocked i am to have a release on Plak which is a staple here and internationally, with previous releases of artists such as Chaton, Ripperton, Quarion, Nhar, Agnès, Dachshund, cco among others. If you haven't heard of them, it's worth checking them out and their catalogue ;)

Coming not so far from the Alps, Opuswerk is a new talented artist in love with hardware equipment and already got some strong producing skills.The charismatic tall guy is a main actor in the renewal of the techno scene in Geneva, throwing parties every week-end he's got a residency at Milk club and will also open up for Carl Craig at Electron Festival…yep Opuswerk knows how to move a crowd. 
The A-side features Futurewerk, the first of a collaboration with London Based techno outfit Fundamental Interaction, is a raw dubby influenced track where chords and rhythm clearly aim for the dance-floor at 3am, or later depending on your countries going out habits. On the B-Side, TH13-13 is a flashback to the mid-90’s, a squirting bassline with bleeps and blops, it plays subtly with a syncopated rhythm section and discrete chords…Pure Hardware jam ! 
Comes in 180 grams of black wax, carefully mastered at D&amp;M,Berlin. Full printed sleeve designed by Frederic Laborde. 
This EP, is the first of hopefully others in 2012.

Roberto Clementi’s sparkling new EP spans a diversity of styles, all imprinted with his own unique sound. This relative newcomer to Soma has proved a great match for the iconic Glasgow label, producing consistently high-quality tracks. His innovation and vision are clear on this single, which is his second release through Soma.

The EP kicks off with Viper, which ignites the release from the first bar. The imposing bass hints at a darker sound and the thunderous synth creates a powerful sense of atmosphere. A dubby, industrial feel spreads through the track. These undertones are capitalised on with the electrifying break-downs and drops running through, all lifted with the brushed tones of the intricate drum patterns. This is a fantastic start to the EP and a track to get lost in. 

Retro Chords is the next track and takes a different direction with an endorphin drenched and upbeat sound. Ecstatic, bright synths and ethereal organs help to build a warm melodic structure to the track and conjure a pleasing sense of nostalgia within this retrospective. Elements of Balearic beats and heady, celebratory times are key to the sound of this stylish track.

Overrule adds another fresh perspective to the release. A staunch powerful rhythm drives this track from the outset and makes an immediate impression. The sounds melt into liquid synths and delicate space and this balance of fluid melody and bold rhythm make this an exciting track. 

Mesm completes this expansive album and extends the dub elements. The echoing refrains spiral off and merge with the sweeping backdrop panning and swirling harmoniously. The strong rhythm and melody line provide a powerful anchor to these intricate sounds and during the track energetic, pumping beats heat it up creating a raucous mix. As the track fades out it becomes sparser and darker and flows away intriguingly.   

This EP is the perfect expression of Clementi and showcases his talents as a producer, combining great skill with distinctive, fresh ideas to create a striking new sound, which, signals a bright and prolific future with Soma.  


Roberto Clementi - Viper (Soma 356d)

Reinhold Freidl risks together with the renowned German actor Bernhard Schütz a reinterpretation of Robert Schumann's classic Dichterliebe (poems bei Heinrich Heine). They try to not let the content drift away into beautyful singing, but keep the brutatlity and ugliness and unhappiness of the singer in mind (and sound).
Performed live in Warsaw 2012, recorded in Berlin by Ralf Mainz, presented by the Polish label BOLT in the series Populista
