It was about time they laid all their cards on the table; no more secrets, no more excuses and definitely no more sneaking around. How they'd not been found out yet was something of a miracle - there were many times the game had nearly been up, but somehow the truth had never come out. If they'd been honest from the outset, things could have been different, but sometimes putting your feelings out there, naked and bare, was more frightening than the repercussions. 

There's certain DJs that you can trust will curate a top drawer record label. With Bristol mainstay Danielle and her freshly minted Soft Raw imprint, we're definitely in safe hands. An extension of her own tastes as a DJ, the label will explore the contrast between soft and raw textures, casting a net far and wide to catch everything from abstract rhythms to technoid experiments and weighty sub-heavy sonics, whilst seeking to platform new producers who are carving out a singular sound. The first comes from Sam Black, better known as Slacker, who sets the tone in fine style with a collection of moody, rumbling cuts that lean heavily into jungle and half-time DnB.

Pro Unlimited refers to soundcloud premium accounts from the ancient ages. It's an archeological dig the label used to find its sources.

SousTraitance Label, one of the many representatives of Lyon's scene resurfaces from the depths with Masterbep'. The third installment in their compilation series dances on the fringe of the current yet futuristic club scene, echoing the eerie beauty of organic sounds emanating from reptilian, xenomorphic entities. 

Featuring as usual up-and-coming French and international Producers (Trois-Quarts Taxi System, Rxex, Smogo, Anta Doma, Orchid, Homelander, Marmo), this seven-track CD fuses elements of halftime DnB, entrancing psychedelic techno, gravity-defying dub uk, nebulous IDM and razor-sharp breakbeats. 'Noyau' was conceived on the electronic interspace. A poly-genre lovechild of or+be, two artists on a parallel sensory trajectory in music. or+be, pronounced as orb, is the collaborative project of French artists Beatrice M. and Orchid. The musical pair bonded over their particular love for deep and aquatic elements and precise sound design, the sort that sneaks deep into your brain. Their newest EP is an encapsulation of sounds drawn from the deepest and most psychedelic corners of the club, from drum and bass, halftime, ambient, to tribe- and trance-inspired grooves. The airy serenity of 'Cîme' gives way to 'Protocol', a downtempo march, before 'Raison' takes over with a throbbing undulation that evokes past euphoria. French-Australian artist Tangerine concludes the EP in fashion with a hypnotizing remix of 'Raison'.

A testament to catharsis of body and mind, an homage to sentiment and intrigue.

‘Hyper:lost’ purveys two interlinked but distinct sides of an artist whose reputation has spanned a long and ever maturing path of sonic development. Where Raär’s signature intricacy manifests in the grittier ‘hyper’ half of ‘hyper:lost’, Whylie counters with the haunted but sentimental spatiality of the other - the ‘lost’.

For this is like a search through the dialectic of the machine; energetic fluxes and frenetic textural modulations of the hyperreal encounter swirls of melancholy and lush human washes of its seeker. These are the contradictions of a determinedly uncertain pursuit; of a head charge into the void.

Twin parts diagnosis and remedy of a present insanity. Heads down and knees up for the end.

Midheaven Records launches in 2021 with 'Force Majeure', the debut EP of Sydney/Eora-based amuwa (@a-m-u-w-a), aka 25-year-old Joshua Deering. Born and raised in the urban sprawl of Sydney CBD, Deering now brings 10 years of musical development to a head, where design and feel seamlessly enmesh. The EP draws from formative experiences immersed in the sounds of city noise, industrial zones, natural amphitheatres, and packed dance-floors. Familiar strains of electro, trance and bass music shift and meld into new, hybrid forms, driven by a synthetic-organic logic. Roiling subs and propulsive drums are engineered for impact, couched within mutating synth arrays. Untraceable oddities click, whirr and hum around the stereo field—subtle changes reward repeat, deep listening. Over four tracks, amuwa re-centres the whole body as listening technology—pursuing a trance-state that is grounded in the dance, not just for the head(s). This is a formidable debut.
