A track with a powerful and touching story, ‘Flipped On Its Head (Again)’ is about a 1990 Toyota Hiace with a rich past. In 2020, George’s best friend (and closest musical collaborator) Ed died in a tragic accident whilst travelling Australia, having saved up to buy a van which had been converted into a camper. Following this devastating loss, Ed’s family made the decision to ship the van back to the UK and subsequently gifted it to his best friend George, to keep exploring in his memory.

 Years later, whilst on a road trip around Portugal, George found a logo inside the van that led him to track down its original owner—a Belgian chef who’d converted it decades earlier.

George explains: ‘Every time I drive this van I catch myself grinning ear to ear. I feel weirdly close to Ed when I drive it – it really represents his curious and adventurous nature, allowing me to remember years of memories at the same time as I create new ones out on the road. When I found the logo that allowed me to track down the original owner of the van, it unlocked a new perspective that reframed my whole relationship to it. I already knew how much it meant to me, and how important it has been to help me grieve in an active way. But suddenly I zoomed out a bit, and was imagining all the other people who had travelled in this characterful 36-year-old van, having the time of their lives up and down the east coast of Oz. I imagined Ed doing the same, achieving the dream that he worked so hard to achieve. I imagined the trip that we should have had in it together, if it weren’t for Covid grounding my flight. It throws up mixed feelings but ultimately it’s exciting to think about. As the lyrics ask:“how many times have these keys changed hands on the east coast? How many friends had the time of their lives out on the road?’
