Nearly a year after releasing his latest LP «Selfportraits» on his usual abode The North Quarter, Toulouse based DJ and producer Julien «Redeyes» Salvi has teamed up with two motivated youths from Toulouse, Tom and Eva, and an illustrator from Caen «Loofi», to bring a new record label to life.

Five Alley was born from a collective love of soulful music and the will to create something genuine and new. Already deeply rooted in the soulful aesthetic that Redeyes is known and loved for, the label aims to deliver much more than quality music: it positions itself as a strong vector for social justice and a curator of artistic talents. In fact, 20 % of the earnings of every release will be donated to a social activism organization.

In basketball, the alley-oop requires timing and teamwork. «Five Alley» is a nod to the notorious move and as a label, we want it to truly embody those values.

In the continuity of Redeyes’ musical master-work, the label’s sound will expand beyond the borders of Drum and Bass to welcome not only hip hop and jazz sonorities, but also a wider variety of bass music.

The first EP to be delivered on the label dubbed «This Must Be the Place», is a 4 track melodic delight symbolically featuring some of Redeyes’ closest friends and longtime partners: Lenzman & Monty, with DRS & [KSR] on the vocals.

Cult favourite Submorphics delivers his long awaited debut album “Kodak Dreams” on Amsterdam imprint The North Quarter. 15 year veteran producer Greg Axelrad has been one of America's premiere exports when it comes to Soulful Drum & Bass. His unmistakable 'smoked-out' take on the genre has made him a fan favourite for years. After his The North Quarter debut “Detroit Haze” early 2018, he now returns with his most ambitious project yet: “Kodak Dreams”. Written during a time of great personal highs and lows, his debut album is easily his most personal body of work. The Michigan native drew inspiration from his transatlantic journey and childhood memories to paint this musical memoir.

A multi-genre piece that features vocals from frequent collaborators Big Brooklyn Red, SelfSays, T.R.A.C. and Christina Tamayo, this album brings together Soulful Drum & Bass and LA / Detroit-flavoured Beats with an easy elegance. Starting out as a duo, the Commix name has graced some of Drum & Bass’ leading labels since coming to prominence in the early 2000’s, and the debut album, ‘Call To Mind’, holds the honour of being the first solo artist album for historic label Metalheadz. The lead single, 'Be True', has long since cemented its place in Drum & Bass history as an anthem on the grandest scale, and the album itself was incredibly well received across the electronic music spectrum and is widely regarded as one of the best D&B LPs of all time.

As a DJ his focus is on the deep, the experimental and the musical.
