Providing the darkness this time around is New Zealand's prime purveyor of moody, murky beats Olie Bassweight with his seminal 'False Idols EP'. Paradise Lost brings you three slabs of original paranoid Bassweight material and a DrumnBass Remix by UK newcomer The Last Hero. These tunes will give your speakers a real low-end workout, but beyond sheer physical impact, it's important to note that each track speaks to some element of society and the human condition, which is a refreshing change from the usual anonymous beat packages released in electronic music today.

First up is the title track 'False Idols': a compelling voice sample narrative from Terence McKenna starts us off on this rolling, Reece-laden treat to set the mood. 'Question Freedom' continues the critical look at society but with more of an ethereal twist, rolling kicks and heavenly pads contrasting against writhing bassline science. 'Misanthropy' uses haunting low-end bass, tasty breaks and eerie atmospheres to conjure a vision of misanthropist existence in today's world that is dark, bleak and paranoid. Finally, London's The Last Hero, current favorites of Cylon and Architecture Recordings in the moodiest spaces of Drum and Bass, offer up a minimalistic re-interpretation of 'Misanthropy', balancing sparse beats against deep bass splashes to produce a tune which is at the same time claustrophobic and cosmic.

Olie Bassweight comes correct for Paradise Lost Recordings with his 'False Idols EP' - and delivers the kind of darkness that one simply cannot escape. So buckle up, enjoy the trip and embrace the dark side...
