Communion #083 - JC Laurent

This set has been recorded by Alejandro aka Hypomania, who was a very influential person in the Colombian Techno scene. We can say that many in Colombia learned and discovered what Techno was, and thousands of artists thanks to his comments, critiques, and materials that he shared on social media. He was also one of the founders of Bulto, the main queer party in Bogotá, highlighting not only its audience but also the quality of curation, where they always surprise with their lineups and development of what this collective is today.

This set has not only been recorded by a great selector and representative of the Colombian Techno scene but also brings us memories of one of the best mythical nights at Berghain for Communion, where we met the Ravers who are now better known as Bulto.

In memory of Alejo, we share with you the very special set he made for us in 2020.

“Last December I went to Berlin to spend NYE there. While I was queuing for Berghain I heard someone calling my name, I was surprised obviously because I guess Alejandro is not a very common name there. Long story short, it was Monica, someone I know long time ago from the Colombian scene, with two friends, one of them Borvac. We ended up partying (and queuing for the toilets) for almost all the party. Later I did my debut show at Red Light Radio and that’s when the invitation for this podcast came. Since then I started collecting my favorite songs of the year (so far) and I’m very happy with the result.”  Say Alejandro aka Hypomania, May 2020.

Simon aka THREE - S, born in Colombia and currently residing in Barcelona. In 2023, he has begun to be seen in the Barcelona scene, participating in iconic clubs of the city such as Moog, and this month at Laut. On this occasion, we have the set he performed to open the night at Laut alongside another artist who has been invited by us, Dzeko, on the Spectrum night hosted by Derrick Burns.

On July 20th at Laut Barcelona, we had the pleasure of hosting keat from Lisbon for the first time in Spain—one of the new gems of Portuguese Techno. As a producer and DJ, his set undoubtedly electrified the dance floor, keeping everyone moving energetically until the very end. To celebrate the 100th episode of Communion, we are honored to feature a very special guest: Aleja Sánchez, a Colombian DJ and producer who has left an indelible mark on the Latin American techno scene. Founder of Northallsen Records and collaborator with labels such as Semántica and Affin, her music stands out for its fusion of organic soundscapes, hypnotic, experimental, and acoustic sounds, blended with the essence of techno.  

Based in Barcelona, Aleja Sánchez has dedicated much of her time to exploring new production techniques and delving into the art of sound design, constantly enriching and evolving her musical approach. This set is a reflection of her artistic growth and the mystical essence that defines her music, making it a perfect tribute to this special 100th episode of Communion.

Al Greco, a resident of Communion, is originally from Peru and is currently based in Paris, where he developed his path within the techno scene. Over the years, he has built an extensive record collection and is known for his 100% vinyl sets, delivering groovy techno with subtle acid touches.

A long-time participant in the Parisian underground scene, Al Greco has spent years supporting the community through collectives and projects such as Basscule, Lolab, and others. Today, he is part of the Communion family, continuing to bring his vinyl-driven sound to dance floors.
