CR006: COMMUNAL

A multifaceted, internationally spanning project bringing together 10 of the worlds most exciting, independent record labels and DJs. Officially fusing a multitude of entities together on a single project to embrace and uplift each other in a world seemingly more fractured than ever.

Initially derived from the concept of ‘bootlegging’ the key focus of the project was to explore how different labels could co-exist and compliment one and other through visual identities and musical outputs. Bootleg culture allows for unexpected and exciting results to be birthed due to its subversive, illicit nature. Embodying this ethos with blessing from the contributing labels has allowed for a progressive crossroads of creativity to come to fruition, whilst financially supporting and platforming independent creators.

COMPILATION
 Each of the labels involved offered a selection of artists and releases from their roster to work on the project. Tracks were pooled together from each label and selected by artists from other labels to be bootlegged using only the original track to work from. The practice of bootlegging music is age old within dance music, and this compilation sees artists from around the world dismantling and reconstructing partnering labels music in their own vernacular. The compilation spans 17 tracks and sees some of the global scene’s most interesting DJs venture into new musical territories working on a contrast of genres.

While his sound palette is inspired by sounds from across the globe, his mindset, approach, and ethos are primarily indebted to the artistic history of Philadelphia and the surrounding mid-Atlantic region, with additional influence coming from Detroit and artists from the midwest. Combining influences from the rap and dance music worlds to form the basis of his sound, “posted in the back of the club, pt. 2” is a showcase of these inspirations combined with reference points from his previous work as Gohda.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Planet Mu have compiled fifteen tracks by their current roster, showcasing a label in rude health. Committed to boundary pushing, Planet Mu's releases are diverse and exciting, moving towards the edges of genre or creating entirely new takes. 'PlanetMµ25' runs the gamut, from the deep listening of Skee Mask's Konx-om-Pax remix and Ital Tek's 'Deadhead' to the drifting tones of Bogdan Racyzynski or FARWARMTH; from the fired-up cubist experiments of Basic Rhythm's remix of DJ Nate to Gábor Lázár and Rian Treanor. The collection displays diverse experiments in footwork ranging from RP Boo's dancefloor acid and Jana Rush's amalgam of musique concrete and juke to Ripatti a.k.a. Vladislav Delay's grainy take on 'Flowers'. There's the head-on minimal grime of East Man, the foggy bass music of Eomac and the psychedelic angels-on-the-dancefloor trance of Meemo Comma, plus the sound of techno which has collapsed into free jazz on Speaker Music's 'Techno is a Liberation Technology (ft.
