Weihnachten. Wir kennen vielleicht manches deutsches Weihnachtslied und ihre Meldodien und Texte... Hier bei Soundcloud bin ich aber noch nicht auf jemand gestoßen, der sich der alten Lieder angenommen hat (was an meiner Art der Suche liegen wird). So kam mir die Idee, das Lied "Leise rieselt der Schnee" auszuwählen und nach dem Verfasser zu forschen. Ich gelangte zu dem Namen Eduard Ebel, der das genannte Weihnachtslied 1895 verfasste. Ich habe mir das Notenbild länger angeschaut und beschloß, daraus Thema und Variationen werden zu lassen. Es mag Hinweise darauf geben, dass Ebel auf vorhandenes Tonmaterial zurückgriff und andere das Notenbild ins Leben riefen. Ich habe mich dennoch entschieden, dieses Werk "Ebel-Variationen" zu nennen, da erst der Text des Liedes die Melodie bekannt machte und die Weise womöglich nie den Bekanntheitsgrad erlangte, den sie heute hat.
 Das etwa 12min lange Werk ist grob in die Tempi Moderato - Andante - Tempo I gegliedert und für großes Orchester gesetzt. Das Anfangsthema durchläuft sehr schnell neue Harmonieebenen und verlässt As-Dur zu a-moll, mit weiterer Länge der Musik habe ich auch Tonverlagerungen und -höhenveränderungen verwendet, um dem Thema neue Gestalt zukommen zu lassen.
Es mag mein Beitrag zum Weihnachtsfest sein, ich hoffe, Ihr habt Freude daran.
