This fic devastated me, but it was so beautifully written I had to record it. I love reading sad angsty prose.
There is a warning for grief, and there is no happy ending I'm afraid.

I recorded this at 2am waiting for the Summer Solstice, my voice is quite raspy in this one but I think it suits it.

“Nothing’s wrong,” Ed insists, and Stede isn’t sure why Ed would lie to him, but he won’t push. Ed’ll tell him in his own time. “Anyway, you never answered my question.” His expression grows serious. “You wanna go out on another date with that guy?”

“Well, yes, I’d like to see him again,” Stede replies, confused when Ed looks away at that. “He’s very nice!”

Stede has had a lovely first date with Harold Hornberry. Sure, Stede would prefer to go out with his friend Ed, but Ed isn't interested in dating. It's a shame.

But why is Ed acting so weird when he meets Stede at the end of his date at the Utrecht University Botanic Gardens?

Like, in real time?”  “Yes, Edward, that’s correct,” said Stede softly.  Ed’s brain momentarily seized up. He supposed it made sense that Stede was capable of learning a set of rules to do something like arrange and play a piece of music. There was something unnerving about this song, though. It felt, well–it felt organic . Reactive. Almost collaborative in a way. Ed was lost in the push and pull of it, until the last notes softly petered out.  “So, what did you think?” asked Stede. It sounded nervous again. Why the hell would someone program an anxiety response into a bot?
