La primera obra de misericordia corporal que nos propone la Iglesia, se centra en visitar y cuidar a los enfermos: una tarea que Jesucristo realizó con continuada frecuencia durante su paso por la tierra. Entre otras muchas escenas del Evangelio, le vemos sanar a la suegra de Pedro; devolver la salud a la hija de Jairo; atender al paralítico de la piscina de Betsaida o pararse ante los ciegos que le esperaban a la entrada de Jerusalén. El dolor de esas personas nos muestra que Dios va a su encuentro y les anuncia la salvación que ha venido a traer a todos los hombres.
