Sometimes the right things just fall into the right place and so it happened with an old track by Thomas P. Heckmann under his Drax disguise, named Section 2. Originally released as Techno’s first ever 7inch, it was very popular in 1993 and paved the way for the huge follow ups like Drax Three -Phosphene and the hugely influential and successful Drax LTD.II - Amphetamine.

Joining forces for the first time are label founder Len Faki and Juxta Position, a rather fresh yet already integral member of Figure. How effectively the prolific producers worked them machines with combined strength shows in every fiber of this four-tracker.

The record‘s sides feature two alternate mixes of each track: Superstition tempts with is sultry vocal, driven by an irresistible acidic groove, fusing Juxta Position’s preference for rough and analogue sounds with the tight programming Len Faki has become renowned for. Paying tribute to UK’s gritty brand of warehouse-techno, A2 introduces a more swinging and all-out version of the track.

A lot more tender than its counterpart, Gathering Clouds slowly builds from jagged synths and droning basses, brewing up a vivid tempest of anticipation. Verging carefully on the moment of emotional release, we are left to imagine the theatrical scenery cooked up in this delicious blend of the two artists’ singular skills.

Paris-based DJ & producer AIROD aka Dario Brkic returns to Amelie Lens’ Lenske for his second 12” on the Belgian label, ‘Rave Cycle’. Sam Deliaert AKA Farrago steps up with a new four-tracker on Amelie Lens’ imprint LENSKE. Kidney Shot is his third outing on the label following the very much revered Risin’ EP -which in 2018 inaugurated LENSKE including a collaboration with Lens and a remix by Kobosil- and the killer uncompromising Neontrance from last summer. Ahead of appearances at Awakenings Festival, Kappa Futur Festival, the OFFSónar Exhale party in Barcelona, Rotterdam Rave and touring through India, Japan and Canada this year, the Belgian DJ & producer returns in pure form.

The record opens with Fall To Ruin where Farrago continues to develop his industrial yet trancey production, delivering high levels of energy to the dance floor. The title track Kidney Shot is the perfect example of this intention too. With total expertise he manipulates echoes with synths creating unexpected and ecstatic breakdowns. On the other side, Flavours Of Youth unleashes a melodic cut with an immersive bass. The EP concludes with the electrifying sound of Vizio.

What does techno look like in its purest form? Clear in its structure. Credible in its message. With an insistent beat in the background. With its heart in the right place. And its melody in the tips of the never-ending goosebumps.Those who know, are aware of that. Those who can, do it. At Complexed Records they've only been doing just that since 2014. But they do it with a sound that embodies such determination that it could just as well come from the good old days in the beginning. That's primarily down to label boss Drumcomplex, who in this short period and with very few artists has established a reputation that has projected virtually every new release into the playlists of the major players.
