Here's something I was asked to do for my course, and I thought I'd put it up here because I'm proud of it and also incase anyone was wondering if I could rip off stereotypical news show intro music.

This has taken me waaaaay too long to finish, but here it is, finally, the finished version of Traffic. Actually mixed in a studio for once (yeah I'm stepping up in the world), this is my first track to feature vocals (performed and heavily autotuned by yours truly). Kind of dream pop-ish with a distorted, almost dance-y edge, Hope you enjoy, and I promise it will not take quite so long to finish the next one.

So, here's a piece of music I made. Its the soundtrack for the opening sequence of a short film I'm soundtracking as part of my 3rd year final project at uni. I think it holds up on its own though, if anyone wants some music to chill out to.

Where Are You?

Given that I was quite proud of it, and it will now probably never get finished, here's a track I was working on in March before the mega course workload started. Its a big, epic, guitar enhanced electropop track. Enjoy.

Perfect Headache

Here's something a little bit fun and different. It was written back when I was living in uni halls three years ago, but upon revisiting it I found it was too damn catchy not to actually record. The entire thing was almost exclusively programmed, recorded, mixed and (badly) mastered over a period of about 8 hours over two trips down to Bath. Please like and share. :)

Lightbulbs 2015 Remix unfinished

Track 2 from the Photophobia EP. This one is one of the weirder things I've ever done, but also probably the most similar to previous Complications tracks on the album. It has a synth-based dance sound, while also incorporating heavy guitars, and weird, pitch shifted vocals. Lyrically, it's based on a plot line from a D&D style role playing game I play with friends, about a fierce warrior who travels far and wide in search of his fallen leader, never giving up hope.

Lyrics: 
I pledge allegiance to your name. Carry the scars of what they did to you. Cross this ocean once again. Sound the alarm for the final truth. You're alive somewhere in this desert. Our faith remains independent. We slaughter those unbelievers. A thousand swords never hesitate. I'll find you.

Requiem For Kane

Track 1 from the new EP, Photophobia. This is a remake of the first thing I ever produced, back when I was 18 and all I knew how to do was program some presets into logic. It's very different now, it's turned into a full pop song with lyrics and everything. It's probably the best thing I've ever made, musically and lyrically, and it was sort of my vague attempt at explaining my own thoughts and insecurities about the abstract concept of a theoretical romantic entanglement. I hope you like it.

Lyrics:

Lightbulbs

Track 3 from the Photophobia EP. This track took about six hours to actually write, record and program, but at least four times that long to actually mix. I'm still not 100% I got it right, but I really wanted to preserve the distorted, reverb-y messiness of it without making it too much of a... well, a distorted reverb-y mess. It's one of the more uptempo and aggressive tracks I've done, as it was basically constructed as a fairly standard rock song, though with a motorik rhythm, some vaguely late 80's/early 90's sounding synth parts and a hell of a lot of shoegazey noise. 

Also, it must be noted that the ending contains a blink and you'll miss it sample of BSI, an 'experimental' vocal track made by Samuel Packwood back when we were at school.

Lyrics:
I caught a virus and it follows me around, even at six feet underground. Is it time? Am I free? Can I finally leave? I'm increasingly anxious. You've got me hanging by a thread, and you hold the scissors. I heard exactly what you said, does it matter now? Just don't let this be another ending, I know we can't let go. I lost sensation when my body hit the ground. But I can still hear the sound.

I Don't Know What You're Doing, But I Wish You Would Stop It

Track 4 from the Photophobia EP. This is probably by far the biggest departure from my usual style that I've ever done (at least under the Complications name, anyway). I included it on the EP because, while this is a lot more aggressive and noisy than anything else, I think in terms of production style and the sort of sounds I use, it is still a recognisably a Complications song. I went for a more Industrial/Drum&Bass kind of thing for this, with most of the lyrics in a shouty spoken word kind of vein. It even has influences from Black Sabbath and death metal at one point. 

Lyrically, it's very much influenced by a D&D style role playing game that myself and other friends regularly play. Said lyrics tell the story of a man or woman who is so paranoid about the fragility of his human form that he pledges his support to a megalomaniac artificial intelligence that wants to convert the entire human race into robots and destroy the universe. Standard, really.

I’m fairly certain most physicians would probably say never
And who am I to disagree? They spent in upwards of six or seven years at university. But when the virus consumes you to the extent that it dominates every cell in your body and every thought in your mind, are you still an independent subject, or just another symptom of the disease itself?
And it feels like more than any of us bargained for. We remain unsure. Is this what we asked for?
How do we expect to overcome disease, when we’re just maggots consuming as we please? WE JUST SLEEP and wait for the nightmare to be over. And how can we reconcile ourselves when we’re just slaves to the whims of our health? WE JUST SLEEP in the hope we never wake up. There is no solution! There is no solution! For every time we actually solve a problem we just end up creating ten more somewhere down the line, and we end up with this big fucking jigsaw puzzle where half the pieces fit in about 7 locations, but each slot can only hold one, there can be only one! And when you have multiple variables pulling in several different directions, that becomes a problem unto itself.
And it feels like more than any of us bargained for. We remain unsure, is this what we asked for?
No. I don’t think this is what we asked for, I think this is just how we’re told we’re supposed to pass the time.
Everything from sex to sadness sells. We create our own personal hell. Shut up in our rooms in cheap hotels. Lost in our minds, we’ll never tell. Prisoners of our thoughts, we can’t escape. Contemplate the lives we’ll never take. Will we always lie here in disgrace? Sneering as we’re taken to our graves.
The only way to truly know peace is to surrender: Surrender everything you own, surrender everything you know, surrender everything you are, discard all freedom and personal agency. Because our own human nature has failed us, and these false idols have abandoned us. So we must surrender! I pledge fielty TO THE MACHINE GOD!

Track 5 from the Photophobia EP. A nice, sort of subdued, dreamy  end to the EP. This was built over essentially a four chord riff in drop D tuning on guitar, and turned into something pretty. Thanks for listening!

Lightbulbs (2011 Version)

Heres a new track I made for my DAT remix assignment (2nd year Bath Spa uni, studying CMT). Its kind of a hybrid between trip hop and industrial noise stuff (though definitely more on the trip hop side of things), with big deftones-esque drums. It basically started off with me just wanting to sound like Deftones, and just running with it really. Yeah I know theres an odd sounding sample of some mental russian guy there, we had to use the a cappella in our track somehow, but I think it kind of sits quite nicely and adds to general sense of unease or whatever that i was going for. Its pretty heavy and quite different to my normal stuff, and is probably a vague indication of where a few future tracks might go (though ones i'm working on atm are much more poppy/melodic than this). Anyway, hope you enjoy, more to come soon :).

Matchbox

What up guys! Just finished mixing this new track, calling it October Sun. This was actually made before Matchbox, and has a kind of upbeat electropop feel to it without any dissonance or noise, so its quite different in that respect. Its not wonderfully produced, but it was the best I could do; and I thought I'd put it up just cos its pretty. Enjoy.

Aware that this isn't to everyones taste, but thought i'd upload it anyway. Pretty much every sound made here was made using a click track or a signal generator, so it was a bit of a challenge. Not really in the same style as usual, its a bit dissonant and repetitive.

Wrong

Yeah, sorry, I think I just broke music. Massive apologies to Subvibe, I don't think they expected it to be this bad when they let me remix it, and I am wholly sure they will not want to be associated with this. Basically, I was playing around with a distortion setting on a rather simple sine wave bassline, and it led me to create what I think might well be the worst dubstep breakdown ever made. I pretty much had to put it in the finished thing, just "fur the lulz". Anyway, enjoy, or not.

This Is Subvibe (Complications "Godawful" Remix)

Here is a song I made, partly because I had a guitar riff I needed to use, partly because a friend asked me to compose something for a play he was working on, and partly as a way to procrastinate doing any actual real work for my course. Definitely a lot more chilled out I think than my usual stuff, with quite a shoegazey/post rock vibe. Hope you enjoy. Guitars and vocals performed by me.
