I wanted to do something different for this night, so I experimented with a new approach to my preparation, organising playlists with tracks by what kind of sound design and moods they contain, and putting them within folders that indicated the general intensity in order to slowly ramp up the tension. This groundwork allowed me to prepare an arc for a deep set where I could make long layered mixes while maintaining the groove, speed and improvisation I consider to be recognizable features of when I DJ in a club.

Although this set also sustains a steady groove and flow, it is still a departure from my usual, more instinctive way of playing, where I tend to switch more impulsively between styles and themes, mixing tracks that have pronounced rhythmic elements with tracks that have very memorable basslines and hooks, especially from earlier decades, call it old school, 90s, 00s, retro or outdated if you want. I do this in order to keep a sense of playfulness and unpredictability going (fu n）with selections that have a distinct character.

This set was more about consistency, atmosphere and subtle transitions. The aim was to have the music slowly progress over the course of the set but without it becoming a static affair. This is why I completely avoid looping tracks, as I want their sounds to continuously evolve, and the phrasing in their structure to be continuously accentuated throughout the mix. 

It might not sound quite like what you would expect from a Comrade Winston DJ set, but I actually had a lot of fun constantly keeping two tracks in the mix while preparing for the third to take over, slowly stacking upon the current mood instead of rapidly switching between different ones. Prefering not to rely on the element of surprise but rather slowly reach a boiling point and to enjoy the ride.

Het Archief from De School has launched and I’m very honoured to have the recording of my set there as part of this Dutch clubbing history archive.

The request came in fairly last minute and I was on holiday in Seville, and had a gig in Madrid planned. I spent my entire DJ fee on flights because I just had to do this. Came back to play De School and flew back to Spain only hours after finishing in Amsterdam.

Three hours of building from the deeper cuts that got me started as a DJ 11 years ago, to some (acid) house, to hypnotic rollers and playful 90s techno. Representing my sound in a full scope of my interests while making sure it’s a true warm-up set.

This is my contribution to the legendary Invite’s Choice podcast series, which is no longer available on the Soundcloud channel of Dutch legend Invite.

This mixtape was probably the first domino in a chain which catapulted my DJ career in the Dutch techno circuit, and therefore I hold it very dear. After searching some hard drives, I found it on a corrupt SSD and managed to recover it, and I decided to re-upload it on Souncloud. Hope you enjoy!

Mixed somewhere in the spring of 2018 on two Technics SL1200s, one CDJ900 and a Xone92. uploaded late July 2018.

"Ukraine has endured continuous bombings by Russian forces for over two years. In response, in 2022, we initiated our inaugural fundraiser "Grooves For Ukraine" and successfully raised over €7,000, which was donated to Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe. This organization provides aid not only in Ukraine but also wherever disaster strikes. During renewed attacks on several cities, countless innocent lives—including defenceless animals—were injured and lost. These animals, who would steadfastly protect their owners if they could, faced immense danger.

Our upcoming second fundraiser "Grooves For Ukraine Vol.II" supports two organizations, with funds split equally between them.

The first organization focuses on the often-overlooked companions who stand by our side—the pets and animals traumatized by the war. These furry friends endure the shock of missile strikes, losing their homes, loved ones, and families, living in perpetual fear amidst chaos.

UAnimal, a Ukrainian animal welfare group, coordinates efforts to aid animal shelters and organizations across the country. Since the conflict began, they've tirelessly rescued and cared for animals affected by bombings, reconstructing shelters destroyed by the Russian military. Additionally, they advocate for animal rights and oppose fur-based fashion.

The second organization, AIDx10, consists of volunteers based in Kyiv, London, and Berlin—a team of creative professionals committed to Ukraine's sovereignty and freedom. By leveraging creative communities in music, art, design, and fashion, AIDx10 aims to bolster frontline aid efforts and collective resilience against Russia's aggression.

Felt very inspired after hearing DVS1 play, so much so that I dove into the studio, straight from the club for an extended CDJ mixing session. Really got into the groove, and I remembered to press record after a few hours of playing! This one is all about layering, and heavily shaping the sound by EQing drastically and in a constant flow.

Sexyrecs returns with its third release, ‘SR003 - Second Base’. A bold new chapter in the label’s exploration of sensual and forward thinking club music. 

This four-track VA brings together Lacchesi, HUJUS, SOTO and Comrade Winston for a deepdive into grooves that perfectly blur the lines between pleasure and pressure. 

Kicking off on the A-side, ‘Us and Them’ by Lacchesi, sets the tone with an organic and sexy rhythm, weaving erotic vocals with tension and release into a fast-burning dancefloor experience. Followed by HUJUS ‘Taboo’; lives up to its name. A playful, tribalictic track with a bubbly techno atmosphere and a cheeky vocal that keeps things curious and charged.

Flipping the record to the B-side, ‘Kingdom of Flow’ by SOTO also flips the vibes to a rather dark, pounding and underground approach; yet drawing on minimal and hypnotic influences to lock the dancefloor and your mind in. Last but not least, Comrade Winston’s ‘Interception’ closes things out with abstract break-driven energy. A refreshing take on drops and tempo play that suggest being intercepted mid-movement. 

A seductive blend of pulse, tension and release. Sexyrecs challenges you again to feel your best sexy self, on and off the dancefloor.
