Blake Jarrell & Jeff Varisco - Carrollton (Original Mix) [Concentrate Recordings]

The inaugural release from Concentrate Recordings is an excellent beginning for long-time producers Blake Jarrell and Jeff Varisco. Concentrate 001 features two excellent tunes, “Burgundy” and “Carrollton”. Starting with “Burgundy”, the track takes the listener on a blissful ride that features an ever growing melodic arpeggiation that is underpinned by an aggressive bass which wraps the track in sonic bliss. Amid the breakdown, a beautiful pad emerges over the top of bass and arp to set the track into full-on euphoria. The result is a song that crescendos with all elements unifying into a progressive gem that is sure to please. “Burgundy” signals a return to quintessential progressive house.

Where “Burgundy” is made for melody and progressions, “Carrolton” eschews this in favor of a driving bassline and crisp drum work. From the outset, it’s obvious this song is going to explode with aggression and power. Haunting pads and tripped-out percussive delays set the stage for a nasty saw-bass that ascends into the forefront of the audio profile. The song climbs ever onwards towards a snyth that masterfully fits within the energetic feel of the song as a whole. The result is an absolute stormer of a track that will leave dancefloors exhausted. Not recommended for people who have heart conditions!

The second release on Concentrate Recordings from producers Blake Jarrell and Jeff Varisco is a must have for lovers of progressive house and techno. The A-side of the release is titled “Esplanade.” Visitors to the city of New Orleans will no doubt have seen the grand homes on the avenue with their beautiful balustrades adorned with verdant gardens and world-renowned architecture. Beyond this, there was another reason for calling the track “Esplanade.” Once, on a fine Mardi Gras day, Blake and Jeff set out on a bacchanalian experience that would have made the Romans envious. However, true to the old adage that, “what goes up must come down,” our heroes were abandoned by a vicious she-wench and forced to trek home nearly 3 miles to Jeff’s apartment (because cabs really don’t exist on Mardi Gras day). Truly calamitous! Anyways, “Esplanade” is a track reflecting all that is good and wonderful about the grand old avenue.

On the B side of the release, Blake and Jeff have created a pure techno monster. “Almonaster” is a dark and destructive tune that builds and builds upon solid bass and seductive syncopation. The street it is named after in New Orleans is infamous for body dumping and drag racing. Roughly half the street lights on Almonaster are burnt out and no one obeys the speed limit. The climax of Almonaster personifies the label mission to provide both tension and release. If you like driving really fast at night, this is the song for you. It also sounds amazing on club speakers. Concentrate Recordings 002 is a fantastic release and you should buy it. About the Artist:

David Mallow was a founding member of the lauded live electronic band Grayarea (Hope Recordings) and produced a catalog of music as Nosmo. Both his past projects landed tracks on seminal DJ mixes including Tiesto’s In Search of Sunrise, two Global Underground compilations from Nick Warren and Darren Emerson, and on Sasha’s Essential Mix. He performed with Grayarea on John Digweed’s BBC Radio 1 program and traded remixes with massive artists including Bedrock (Digweed & Muir), Hybrid, and Gabriel & Dresden.

About the Release:

His latest single “Not Like You” (Concentrate Recordings) released under his own name is melodic progressive house with a summer vibe. It centers around a melancholy acoustic guitar riff and haunting vocoded vocals, bolstered by a driving bassline and plucky kalimba rhythm. This is a perfect tune for a sunrise set at the beach, when the crowd needs melodies and a proper peak.

Concentrate label chief Blake Jarrell’s “Quarantine Remix” is a blistering warehouse techno interpretation that warps the vocal into the main synthetic focus of the track. This version captures the warehouse techno sound by focusing on thick reverb in the low end and brings the darkness as counterpoint to the light of the melodic original.
