Born in Iran and a citizen of Denmark since the early ’80s, @nimagorji is now based in Ibiza from where he continues to influence the international electronic music scene with his distinct style and vision. His career spans more than 28 years, having a beautiful beginning in Copenhagen’s club scene around the time when the modern house and techno music were taking shape, capturing people’s attention more and more. In 1995 he began a residency at the Rust Club, now remembered as one of the most known underground clubs in Copenhagen, where he played alongside numerous DJs, slowly building on his name. His relocation to Spain brought him extended collaborations with Ibiza Underground, Monza and Next Wave while in 2010 he was awarded “Best Ibiza DJ”.
In 1999 Nima Gorji founded Welt Recordings alongside partner Thomas @madvig, followed by @ng-trax and Need For Sound alongside @octavee, relentlessly following his passion for electronic music by releasing numerous personal works as well as promoting other artists. His rich discography also includes materials published through labels like @scitec, @deeperfect-records, @fuselondon, @bondage-music, @out-of-orbit-space, Love Letters From Oslo, @indigorawrecordings, @cocoonrecordings, Murmur, Natural Rhythm, @blabla-music, @eterecords, @bprecs and @melodeum_records, while others have been dispatched through Bandcamp.

As an outsider looking in, writing about Ukraine is not something I’m entirely comfortable with. How can anyone not from or based in the country really make sense of what’s happening there right now? But thinking back to why I first got involved in electronic music, it wasn’t just about the music, but was also about the friendships, the camaraderie, the community, the support. Of course it sounds cliche, but without these ingredients, the dance music ‘scene’ just wouldn’t be what it is today. 

With this in mind, we’ve decided to launch a podcast series, with the sole aim of spotlighting some of Ukraine’s most talented DJs and producers. Obviously it’s a small gesture of solidarity, but as website owners and writers we feel duty bound to at least help push these artists’ agendas so they continue to be heard - and indeed, appreciated - outside of their native country. 

Kicking off the series is Kirill Kirik, a name recognised by virtually every individual involved in Ukraine’s electronic music scene. A native of Kherson, he’s been busy pushing his country’s underground scene for close to two decades, and we’re really privileged to have him on. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be hosting more mixes from Ukrainian artists as part of our Ukraine Series playlist on Soundcloud. On the fringes of the dubwise sound.

He wandered into the darkness, seeking the fringes of the dubwise sound. It was electronic music that skirted around and sometimes delved into the traits of dub, dub techno, and minimal techno. It captured some essence of these traits, making it skirt around the fringes of dubwise.
The music was hypnotic, a mix of rhythms and melodies that transported him to another world. For hours, he danced with the others, lost in the sound.
But he knew he was still an outsider, only partially accepted by the core group of musicians and fans. He continued to attend the nightly gatherings, always searching for something more.
One night, he saw a flyer for a dubwise music festival. Without hesitating, he went, hoping to find a place where he truly belonged.
As he danced and played his music, he realized that he had found his tribe, a group of people who shared his passion for the fringes of the dubwise sound. And even though he was still an outsider in some ways, he felt more at home than ever.
As the festival ended, he knew the journey had only begun. The fringes of the dubwise sound were constantly expanding, always changing, and he was ready to explore them.

Storytellers Podcast 39 ❏ Lola Palmer

Since the early days, Andrzej Bojanowski aka Brygid was exposed to music. At the beginning of 90' he fell in love with electronic music. House techno Jungle breaks d'n'b - you name it, he was into it. In the meantime was taking lessons playing piano, constantly growing musically. At the end of 90' he started to perform in the local club, where he used to live, quickly gaining seekers of joy. He also started to throw parties with fellow DJ’s from the other cities of Poland. Nowadays he’s the head honcho of Music Over Matter project, where he promotes deep and minimalistic sound by bringing DJ’s and producers from all over Europe, throwing parties and after parties.
