Cosonu unfolds like a slow inward journey – hypnotic, flowing, and carried by subtle layers. It thrives on repetition without ever falling into monotony: small details, gentle modulations, and shifting textures keep the tension alive throughout.
The bassline acts like a steady heartbeat, grounding the track, while the rhythmic elements feel almost like breaths – organic and mechanical at once.
The result is a state somewhere between meditation and trance, where each cycle pulls you deeper into the sound. “cosonu” reveals the introspective side of the release – patient, profound, and infused with a ritualistic energy.

Arno Völker and Simon Birkenfeld originally met in 1998 and took to crafting Drum n’ Bass. Now they’re a tiny bit older, much wiser, more handsome and around 50 BPM slower under the guise Hot City Orchestra.

While Simon embarked on a road behind the scenes in marketing and PR, Arno is better known as Einzelkind – a force to be reckoned with on the European dancefloor. With a string of releases on the likes of Cocoon, Infuse, Playhouse and heading up his own labels La Peña and Pressure Traxx, Arno easily proves his credentials and the wide spectrum of House and Techno he embraces.

London’s Sunday institution FUSE launched their sub-label Infuse in 2008 with a vision to share a platform for friends of Fuse and artists inspired by their parties in the capital. Head honcho Enzo Siragusa welcomes Arno back to the label with Simon and a deliciously dubby two-track EP titled The Observatory.

Futuro on side A features the haunting vocal snippets of Yulya, piercing through the stomping kicks and rolling rhythms quite at home in a bare-brick Warehouse typical of Fuse’s affairs in London.

Side B, and the title track, The Observatory takes a more laid back and minimalistic approach. The dubby bassline is accompanied by busy atmospheric samples, a kind of time lapse of the world going by as the subtle grooves and sustained synths create a tangible tension.

Fresh names to Visionquest, but certainly not new to the game; More Than Material is the promising new project between two bonafide French selector statesmen who collectively boast decades of dancefloor and studio science: Jedsa Soundorom and Gauthier DM. Launching their new alias earlier this year on Zingiber Audio, their signature has been tangible from the off; deep weighted grooves, warm dynamics and total immersion.

'Intimate' says it all; realising its title's close connotations with a dubby, physical groove and a rollcall of soul rolling elements, it's the sound of a crowd locking in en- mass. Low ceiling, heads down, lights low. 'Godsa' follows with similar moody momentum and another hypnotic weave. This time over much more of a stately techno noir soundscape as its persistent jack is laced with subtle acid details. Next, we hit 'Doctor High', an ageless deep house groove peppered with nuances of uplift, trippiness and a drum arrangement that taps deep into the foundations. Once again, the track relives its title's implications.

Finally, we sign out with a precision revision from Fuse resident Archie Hamilton who refixes the pace and density of 'Doctor High' with more of a driving peaktime aesthetic that remains fully respectful of the original's weight and clarity. More Than Material by nature, spirit and name.
