Amidst a new age of techno ushered in by the pandemic, Concrete Husband plants his flag with four rough hardgroove tracks. 

The first track, “Dancing Soles,” sets the tone with harsh drums, floating flute pads, and entrancingly distorted stabs. “Sweat On My Back” dives headfirst into a vortex of droning noise and brutal hi- hats. “I Just Wanna Groove” drives subwoofers to the limit, accented with short melodies and swung percussion. 

The title track, “Pelvic Resonance,” follows a flitting melody as it dances over and around a distorted drum loop like a hare running through underbrush. 

The four tracks create a well rounded vision of techno that is brutal yet uplifting with a unique sonic palette and highly dynamic arrangements.

Pelvic Resonance

Concrete Husband, in a curious alchemy, lets us see both sides of the coin at once. Piel, Concrete Husband’s debut album, expresses the artist’s dual sides. A searing flute opening delves into a torrent of techno madness, topped with two stellar remixes from techno icons TWR72 and 1morning. Concrete Husband takes us from introverted depths to extroverted heights by deftly defying genre. 
	
Concrete Husband’s experimental worlds exhibit his introspection. A troubled relationship’s end spawned the emotional ground for these six tracks. “Everyone else thought my relationship was perfect, and in my own fantasy so did I – but it was violent. He was lost, and I was lost too. Piel is me coming back to myself.” These pieces come from a place of self-discovery after the disorientation left in the wake of a painful break up. Tracks like Piel and Esperanza, appear beautiful and harmonious, but are undergirded with harsh dissonance, while tracks like Despedida and La Primera Vez wail out in sheer darkness. Concrete Husband’s sonic body of work is a disjunct and hazy self-contemplation.
	
If the first half of this double EP tells the story of discovering one’s own voice through introversion, the second half is the soundtrack of the new self’s extroversion. In a sharp turn, Concrete Husband nosedives into sweaty, sensual madness. This is raw, hot, techno built to sustain tension in the body. He melds hardgroove rhythms with industrial sound design to create an entrancingly dark vision of techno. Guided by his masterful four-deck approach to DJing, these tracks use alarming percussion and entrancing rhythms to make carnal body-music. Piel expresses a novel approach to both experimental music and techno, showing how physical highs and emotional lows horseshoe dangerously close. Concrete Husband’s bold album documents his personal rebuilding and challenges his listeners to see the other side.

Concrete Husband is a NYC-based producer, DJ, composer, and flutist. His forward-thinking dance records— Piel and Pelvic Resonance— on White Owl Records received critical acclaim, with Document hailing him as “redefining avant-garde composition.” A conservatory-trained flutist and composer, Concrete Husband draws on a comprehensive knowledge of musical history to create sonic narratives that shimmer with emotional resonance and surrealist imagination. His DJ sets weave grooves of hypnotic techno to generate moments of psychedelic mania and sensual release. A fixture of the Brooklyn techno scene, Concrete Husband is equally well-known for his virtuosic flute performance, which led to Eartheater inviting him to open for her 2024 European tour. As a composer, he’s scored Dion Lee’s Shanghai Fashion Week show and the flute music for the A24 film Beau is Afraid, among other projects. He plans to release his next full-length album, Aliento, this year as well as three techno EPs.

For the fifth instalment of CENTER BOOTH’s second series, Brooklyn techno darling Concrete Husband extracts the communally felt frustration with modern society’s various ills and distills them into a purgative blend of fury and release.

The artist born Carlos Aguilar is a conservatory trained musician and composer whose credits include touring with Eartheater (as a flutist), scoring Dion Lee’s Shanghai Fashion Week show and providing the flute music for the A24 Ari Aster film Beau Is Afraid. He only turned to DJing and techno production during the pandemic, but five years later he became one of the most beloved figures in the New York scene; a BASEMENT and Bossa Nova Civic Club fixture and regular booking at forward-thinking parties such as MERGE and OOZE. In the same period, he’s also managed to put out a steady stream of atypical, highly refined productions, culminating in the release of his debut experimental/techno album Piel last year.

We're thrilled to host the multi-talented Aguilar at CENTER BOOTH, where a snippet from a James Baldwin speech about Western greed sets the tone for the full mind-and-body cleanse that follows. Early on, an excerpt from an ambient score that Aguilar composed for a friend’s short horror film reflects the unease currently felt by so many of us, an emotion sustained throughout the set as Aguilar oscillates between confronting our shared anxieties and providing intense somatic and cerebral respite. Tones are dissonant, melodies are off-kilter and the energy is unrelentingly dark and oppressive, qualities that direct the listener inwards to achieve deep, holistic catharsis. Strap in for a set that plays out like a psychological thriller, where narrative ebbs and flows are heightened by a delicious, knife’s-edge tension and the promise of a visceral payoff.
