Amidst a new age of techno ushered in by the pandemic, Concrete Husband plants his flag with four rough hardgroove tracks. 

The first track, “Dancing Soles,” sets the tone with harsh drums, floating flute pads, and entrancingly distorted stabs. “Sweat On My Back” dives headfirst into a vortex of droning noise and brutal hi- hats. “I Just Wanna Groove” drives subwoofers to the limit, accented with short melodies and swung percussion. 

The title track, “Pelvic Resonance,” follows a flitting melody as it dances over and around a distorted drum loop like a hare running through underbrush. 

The four tracks create a well rounded vision of techno that is brutal yet uplifting with a unique sonic palette and highly dynamic arrangements.

Remembering all my boys. Especially the three. Miss you.

While browsing through my downloads folder, I found a recording of an old friend saying a ridiculous phrase about his Gaultier top.

It got me thinking, the ACTUAL boys in Gaultier always seem to be so sexy, so cool yet so empty. They leave you intrigued but heartbroken. They are the himbos who are sensitive, artistic and so delicious. They have impeccable aesthetic taste, yet their minds (or whatever is left of them) live on a plane that is inaccessible to everyone, sometimes even to themselves. 

They are simultaneously with you and somewhere else. They act like they let you emotionally in but there is always an inpeneterable boundary. Always elusive. Dead pan demeanor. Glossy empty eyes but they draw you in with their beauty.  

The Boys in Gaultier is a lo-fi downtempo electronic soundscape with a few easter egg samples, including snippets from the recording mentioned above, a computer generated voice saying “Ni aquí, ni allá” (Neither here, nor there) and a morsel from Bellini’s over-the-top classic “Casta Diva”. 

I recently was re-engaged with the aria through a sexy vintage JPG fragrance campaign commercial. It is hot, minimal and elegant. The feeling it conveys is almost palpable. It stirs memories from the past. It’s the morning after, the lingering smell of the person you just fucked on your sheets, and the the beautiful lover just disappearing and running off into the daylight. 

In this track, focused experimental sound design is applied to traditional structures and motifs from dance pop, techno, lo-fi music and reggaetón. There is am inviting familiarity but everything is fragile, collapsing at the seams yet bound by beauty and elegance. 

Hit play and get transported to running around the nighttime streets of NYC when all the beautiful things come out to play. Dance to it. Vibe to it. Cry to it. Fuck to it.
