Released in Q4 2021, at it's peak this release made it to the top 10 on Beatport or all Drum and Bass releases.

A dark, mechanical vibe brings the “Capitalism” machine to life groaning on through evil atmospherics as beat awakens and the intensity skyrockets through the build. The tension is high as the drop flips into a high energy composition of crazy neurofunk madness with upbeat energy and ‘in your face’ attitude. Rabid beats run through the measures pounding relentlessly. The phrases flip intertwining synthesized melodies that spin and soar amidst the carnage as the bassline beats brutally beneath. The second drop brings an even bigger bang with a deadly delay and massive neck breaking energy with creative variety that just doesn’t quit. FractalOne delivers smart sound design and abundant animation balanced in creative composition and tonal range.

“Power” packs a potent punch as sinister synths stalk the build on rough and ridged highs with an eerie essence festering in the distance. A brisk blast kicks the rhythm into high gear with bubbling beats setting the pace in an anxious symphony of dynamic neurofunk design. The bassline cuts the composition halting the hunt as it resonates its own revenge slicing and dicing the final phase of the build as it bounces and slingshots through the drop. A quick vocal cuts sets it up slamming straight into another dimension with no holds barred. Rubbery basslines control the composition slamming and winding through the measures as the snare snaps furiously with colorful flavor shredding through the phrases with murderous magnificence. Electrifying effects emulate while the breaks flip and thrash the floor to bits. Full, thick, and intelligently designed with technical brilliance FractalOne’s “Power” is a forceful and ferocious to dominate the mix in the most savage way.

Sinister Souls & TR Tactics - Never 2 Late

Continuing with its strong series of releases in 2023, Hoofbeats Music returns with a bang.

Next up on the label is a heavy hitter cooked in the HQ studio by the label boss QO, this time teaming up with the most popular local producer as of late, PRDK. Confirming the fact the Czech Republic is the promised land of all things Neufounk, their first ever collab reigns supreme from the very first note.

Dark intro leads to a haunting vocal sample which breaks into a terrifying buildup which balances just on the edge of brilliance and insanity. You’ll be losing your mind with the sound of the heavy kicks picking up the pace just before the drop when all of a sudden the world goes silent just for a second, followed by a pitched voice screaming „Propaganda“ on top of its lungs. All hell is breaks loose right after, heavy kicks are followed by a prominent snare and destructive bass stabs.

It’s heavy, it’s hard, but it’s funky at the right moments, too. So, if you like your tunes to be hitting like a truck, this one’s right up your street!

Taking a step back, the inventor looked upon his creation with a mixture of pride and awe. Above him towered a clockwork golem with blood of fire and skin of steel, a protector of that which he had ordained worthy of protection. It’s profile displayed the raw strength of the forges from which it had been wrought, actualized by the servos and motors which drove its mighty body forwards in lumbering motion. Atop its head roared a constant blaze, its uncontainable life energy surging forth from any available outlet in a ferocious display of raw vitality. In a contemplative moment, the inventor then looked upon himself, diminutive and weak by comparison to the champion he had created. He thought of its purpose, shedding a momentary tear for those like him who might fall under its wrathful gaze, but then shook his head with renewed resolve. “It must be done” he said to himself, “They have not the STATE OF MIND necessary to rule this world”. Turning his eyes back to the golem, the inventor set his titanic creation forth on its grim path with naught but a single nod.

With a bellowing roar of the blaze within its skull, the golem emerged from the forest of its creation in a moment of stark contrast as it began to take its creators vengeance upon the city that lay before it. It was itself a city of steel and flame, which tore relentlessly at the lands around it in an exploitative & all consuming hunger. Jets of flame shot forth from the golem’s maw as it tread upon the inferior structures beneath it, reducing that built of this hunger to the component parts it so wantonly consumed. As it stood within the inferno, the golem itself began to feel its own gnashing teeth, the heat of the flames slowly stripping its steel skin to the bone. With a final titanic roar the golem reached a point of criticality, exploding in a massive gout of flame and molten shrapnel which leveled all that remained of what had once been the great city. Watching from high within the forest, the inventor nodded his head in a farewell to his creation, assured by it’s ultimate cry that this land was safe once again from those who would do it harm.


STATE OF MIND returns to EATBRAIN with four reimaginings of their past tracks by themselves and others within the harder side of Drum & Bass. Receiving a flip by Italian neurofunk trio IHR is the notorious collab with label boss Jade 'HIGHLANDER', which features the addition of a motive & fluid reece bassline atop the track’s already driving drumbeat for a dancefloor devastating sonic combination. STATE OF MIND themselves present a VIP of GIANT, which smashes forth on massive drums accentuated by simultaneous bass stabs in a titanic sprint beneath detuned tonal sprites. BYPASS is remixed by MOB TACTICS, whom bypass nothing as they push the track into overdrive in a flurry of furious basses, frenetic arpeggios and brief moments of levity provided by snippets of vocals. Closing the EP is the SYNERGY remix of TIME SLIP FT. KRYPTOMEDIC, which rides the MC’s narration upwards in an ever intensifying crescendo towards a distorted realm of metallic basses that rocket out above their electrified companions and an unstoppable drumbeat. In all, the STATE OF MIND REMIXES morph some of the prolific duo’s most powerful track on EATBRAIN into monstrous new forms, setting them up for further dominance on future dancefloors.

Burr Oak is the new collaborative project from The Clamps and Opsen (formally known for his part in the production outfit Signs). With both parties having already made their mark within the roster of Trendkill, the imprint created by drum & bass figurehead Prolix, their names will be familiar with many veteran fans of the genre. But their joint prowess, alongside the massive body of tracks they’ve already got prepared for release, proves that their output is set to be a turning point for Trendkill. And this is from a label which has had a groundbreaking discography since its inception.

Burr Oak is the new name which The Clamps and Opsen have collided under and their forthcoming, double-sided single will identify their sound and demonstrate the relentlessness of their production. Both ‘Time Has Come’ and its flipside ‘Originate’ are intimidating slabs of sonic, the type of which would be enviable to even the most longstanding producers and it proves that head honcho Prolix has his ear to the ground when its comes to artists with such high-reaching levels of sound design.

‘Time Has Come’ is the A-side and almost instantly explodes through its first breakdown, the type of which catapults you down a winding road of slamming drum patterns and finely tuned hooks. The danceability of this track is undeniable and it rockets into play, only once pulling for the brakes as it drops you into the pair’s expansive sonic landscape before once again, you’re hurled back into the chaos. The reverse is delivered through ‘Originate’, just as cataclysmic as it winds you through its first manic acceleration. Its note flurries and fluctuating bass takes you out into the deep before crazed drums cut at you from all sides. Burr Oak don’t offer up a less aggressive B-side to their release and it gives you an idea of how they’ll be continuing with their release schedule. 

This is a debut which no fan of the darker midst of drum & bass is set to miss. Prolix has proven that as well as being a production heavyweight, he’s also a revered selector, with Trendkill’s catalogue evidence of this fact.
