VARIA is pleased to present the next episode in its podcast series, featuring Confusion.

Confusion is a producer and resident DJ of Raserei. His dancefloor-oriented sound is defined by highly effective rhythms, minimalist synths, and trippy pads or textures that traverse various tempos and subgenres while maintaining a consistent and immersive energy. Drawing on his roots as a drummer and the evolving landscape of techno over the decades, he also finds inspiration in ambient soundscapes, IDM, and other experimental electronic styles.

Since 2017, Confusion has been shaping the regional techno scene in Mannheim and its surroundings. His trajectory soon expanded to institutional clubs such as Tresor Berlin and RSO. As co-host of a visionary event series at Disco Zwei, he has been instrumental in bringing forward-thinking artists to the local scene. Alongside the club nights, the Raserei residents also launched a record label of the same name, extending their collective vision beyond the region.

In recent years, his artistic focus has expanded toward producing his own stripped-down yet timeless techno. Following his debut release, he put out his first vinyl on the esteemed SK_eleven label, run by Setaoc Mass, as part of the SKX series. His tracks have since gained support from key figures including DVS1, Luke Slater, Rødhåd, Rene Wise, Philippa Pacho, Marrøn, Blue Hour, and Quelza, with plays at iconic venues such as Berghain, KHIDI, Bassiani, Basement, FOLD, and Radion.

This episode continues VARIA’s mission: championing considered electronic expression and lasting artistry.

minimalist sound design. Raw machine energy and hypnotic repetition drive the record, each
cut crafted with precision and clarity. The result is a deep, timeless release that embodies the
essence of modular production: focused, uncompromising, and endlessly absorbing. A true
statement of intent for both the label and the artist.

The A1 title track sets the deep foundation with a tense ambient soundscape trip, before
“Bleep Blues” continues with a sci-fi as well as drum heavy workout on the A2. Rounding off
the A-side, “Protovision” explores unknown textured realms and highlighted stabs in key
moments.

On the B-side, “Fog” drives a journey between the dark and the light, with a rhythmic but
moving low-end and an effective gritty lead, while the B2 continues with a stretched light pad
