By partnering with Jason Le Roux, a new young face of the label, an afro house producer from Zimbabwe, 'Remarkable' was born. In the same way as in 2021 'The Summer of your life' has marked our dance floors all over the world, this summer's release will enchant and surprise from Milan to Harare, from Johannesburg to New York. Remarkable is a forceful afro track, with dynamic rhythms and a charming guitar. It is the afro style we like the most: strong, sustained and melodic. The release is completed by Viel (IT) remix, which is an alluring oriental version, a refined and seductive interpretation. It completes the release by offering a very different style, yet leaving its unique character."

Making his Meanwhile return on GMJ and Matter's first release of 2023, Ivan Aliaga presents his "Sami" EP where four original tracks combine with a single remix from Sebastian Sellares.

A growing Argentinean artist who first debuted on 3rd Avenue in mid-2019, Ivan Aliaga has already seen a swathe of releases featured on the likes of Mango Alley, Beat Boutique and onedotsixtwo. Returning after a July 2022 debut on "Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 2", the "Sami" title track is a chunky rhythmic jewel that immediately captures the attention with its spot effects and steam-powered white noise fills. A muted melody gradually filters into range over its 8-minute as arpeggio and vocal cut add to the rich collage of sound. "Simetrica" continues the hefty rhythmic foundation as a panoply of delayed voices, whispered textures and strong bass groove add texture. Swooping pads add intrigue and a smooth progression at the breakdown creates emotion before the track explodes again in the second half.

The delicate arrangement of "Futura" quickly appeals with its atmospheric swells and beautiful melodies. A delayed motif provides a distant echo from Sasha's "Airdrawndagger", while a rapid-fire hi-hat pattern supplies dancefloor urgency. With metronomic rhythmic precision, the track continues with coruscating melodic ease in the second half to create a perfect juxtaposition. The final original track finds, "Animatica" evolving through use of pulsating pads and mirrored groove pattern. Hitting a rousing crescendo at the breakdown courtesy of ethereal pads and whispering voice, the driving rhythmic forces of earlier movements drives the track onwards to it conclusion.

A Meanwhile regular, April 2021's "Dunes at Dawn" EP and a pair of remixes sees Sebastian Sellares returns to the label after February 2022's remix of Alex O'Rion's "The Serpent". Reworking the title track, the Argentinean star makes intelligent use of the themes resonating through "Sami" as a hypnotic rhythmic bedrock provides the perfect foundation for smooth melodic lines to flow gently across the piece. Trademark motifs and counterpoint phrases swell gently towards a rousing breakdown, where new melodies and additional production material converge in a wondrous sonic storm. Melody and rhythm then combine in the second half to mesmerising effect.

With ice-cool precision and a crystal-clear sonic vision, Ivan Aliaga finds a new world of sound within "Sami".

The latest in our free download series comes from label artist Brian Cid. The NYC based producer is coming off his third project for us entitled 'Pluto'. Released earlier this year, the four track EP featured three organic, groovy and sonically distinctive creations, along with a magical 12 minute remix from Marvin & Guy. The project earned play and support from Tale Of Us, DJ Tennis, Roman Flügel, Adriatique, Ame, Damian Lazarus, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Gardens Of God and more; while reaching #1, #2 and #3 in Indie Dance, Electronica, Progressive House and Deep House respectively. 

As a thank you for the amazing support we're giving away one of Brian's most sought after, unreleased tracks entitled 'Welcome Them'. Long a staple of Brain's live shows; it's supernatural narrative has been a mood setter on his travels all throughout 2017, as he describes "This is the moment humans connect with intergalactic beings. A mellow fantasy of red lights, slowly pulsating while covered in fog between dark valleys. A joyful celebration for this long awaited encounter creates the backdrop for a beat that slowly swells into snare thunders and rolling bass. 'Welcome Them' is a journey that starts within our race and ends on open possibilities of a new world."

As we venture towards the heart of summer’s conclusion, we are ecstatic to release one of the label’s favorite projects to date.

Mitch Oliver and Maaruo represent the thriving community of dance music in Montreal; a city also home to the When We Dip team, and a pillar of the creative direction behind the way we run the labels and media platform. As many have before them, the two were regulars on dancefloors across the city before moving into the studio and harnessing their love of electronic music as creators.

Each of the producers have made important strides in the early days of their solo careers, including Mitch’s EP on Magician on Duty and Maaruo’s remix of Budakid right here on XYZ. They’ve also found a distinct knack for partnership, as is evident in their joint track Corne Mistur which was released with Akbal Music.

Same Light will surely continue to turn heads and capture ears for the two Montrealers. It has that something special, an indescribable quality found in the tunes we love the most, no matter the genre. The all-Quebecois team for Same Light includes Beyries, one of the province's most beloved singer-songwriters. Her jaw dropping vocals glide naturally over the crisp arrangement from Mitch and Maaruo, harnessing melancholic prose of somber romance. Instrumentally, percussive flair and fluttering pads carry the words in perfect harmony; A tune that will write it’s own story. 

Erdi Irmak is no stranger to the scene, and an established purveryover of touching productions on the likes of Tale & Tone and Hoomidas. The Turk offered his interpretations of Same light, finding the perfect middle ground for the release. He pays homage to the original’s understated moments, while placing weight on the groove to give the remix immense dance-ability.
