In 2020, Uone and Western released a ten-track manifesto of cinematographic desert house, ‘The Lone Wranglers’. The album – every instrumental element of which was recorded live – set a bold precedent for would-be soundtrackers of dust-ridden doofs. In ‘Desert Fire’ (the duo’s first release since their ‘Lone Wranglers’ album), they return with a stripped and earnest sound, distilling their vision-questing aesthetic to its essence.

At home among the most low-riding elements of ‘The Lone Wranglers’, ‘Desert Fire’ holds onto the apocalyptic intensity that characterises Uone and Western’s sound, with a violin lead, sweeping dub pads and vocal snippets uniting to form something filmic and visionary. Fittingly, the track samples Jarmusch’s 1995 psychedelic Western, ‘Dead Man’, an ambitious project that burst with prophetic literary allusions. And for a production that hints at the day of reckoning, there’s a surprising optimism to ‘Desert Fire’, which culminates on this parched line from the film’s protagonist: ‘The only man who’s got the guts to sell his soul for love and the power to change the world.’

On the flipside, Anjunadeep favourite Elif delivers a remix that’s DJ-friendly but laconic, cutting the violin and pitched percussion to let the piano chords cavort alongside Elif’s bewildering synth-lead arabesques – some of the more complex programming you’re likely to hear on a festival floor this season. The cerebral Istanbul-born producer has rocked festivals from Amsterdam to Tulum, and this understated B-side combines her understanding of dancefloor dynamics and music theory.

Released on Dutch imprint Klassified on 19th August, Mencke’s ‘Su’ is the first glimpse of a telling journey - inspired by a Buddhist’s path to enlightenment. As expected, the track is melodically-charged and presents itself as a depthy sea of emotive instrumental layers. Beyond its well-balanced core of punchy drums and delicate percussive structures, you can find a plethora of tonal components balancing rougher sounds with soothing tones from end to end. A progressive and depthy track with undeniable dancefloor value, ‘Su’ is the perfect introduction ahead of the release of ‘Unalome’ in October.

Joep Mencke - Su [Klassified]

Amsterdam-based artist Joep Mencke continues the subtle introduction of his forthcoming debut album, as he unveils another single from ‘Unalome’. The LP is inspired by the Buddhist path to 
enlightenment, with singular emotions represented as individual tracks within the album. 
Released on Dutch imprint Klassified on 16th September, Mencke’s ‘Sabda’ represents the emotion of ‘Peace’. Instantly soothing, it’s another exhibition of Joep’s storytelling ability and boundless musicality. Riding alongside its tenderly undulating chorus of cadent rhythmic instruments, ‘Sabda’ features a positively introspective smattering of softly-plucked and sweeping tonal elements - whilst 
also creating a soundscape reminiscent of night flight through a desert sky.

Speaking of his forthcoming debut album, Joep says: “Everything in this world, every object, every thought, every emotion, consists of frequencies or waves of energy. We perceive the world as if it is made of separate entities, while in fact it is an interplay of frequencies. This means that our consciousness is constantly affected by its surroundings, and in return that the frequencies of our consciousness are constantly affecting our surroundings. When we are feeling happy or sad, this energy is affecting our surroundings. “Unalome is a journey through frequencies and their corresponding emotions and highlights the interplay between sound and consciousness. The album focuses on using music as a tool for exploration and transformation."

Talking about the aim of his debut LP, Joep says: “I believe we have come to a point where a fundamental change is needed in order for humanity to progress. In order to realise this fundamental change an increase in consciousness/awareness is needed. All of our contemporary complex issues are rooted in ignorance, or a lack of consciousness and awareness.

“Music is an excellent tool for transformation. Through my music I want to facilitate an inward journey for the listener. A journey that opens the listener up to new perspectives and helps them to establish new connections with themselves and the world around them.

“I’m dedicating my life to raising consciousness. This album will be the first major release that is fundamentally rooted in this mission.” '

illich Mujica is a Venezuelan born, New York City-bred DJ who plays uplifting melodic tunes blended with dark and mysterious beats. His magnetic presence and spellbinding universe were already displayed at Amaya Society in NYC as well as at Camp Festival 2022 ; also on his own productions and edits, including Portishead’s version of ABBA’s « SOS » , on which one can sense his very personal touch of enlightening darkness. 

With his new E.P named « The Constant Impermanence », Illich Mujica shows that the right track can transcend the opposites, day and night, East and West, light and darkness ; that the appropriate combination of beats and vocals can unlock the doors of our hearts as well as the ones of the clubs. The E.P includes 2 originals tracks and 2 remixes. 

In « The Constant Impermanence » the hypnotic rhythm and vocals are supported by empowering beats in order to board us on a flowing and uplifting journey of resurgence. Where to ? Two ways are already open with remixes by Landikhan who takes « The Constant Impermanence » on a deep yet joyful clubbing path while KARLÏ’s slow motion ethno remix allows to appreciate the original track’s multiple layers even more.

 With his second original track called « Surya Rising », illich Mujica takes us on an introspective trip through space and time starting with meditative vocals by Tory Stolper coupled with outer-space communications that lead to powerful ascending beats : a perfect opening track , from Berlin to Burning Man’s legendary sunrise sets on the Playa, that asserts the artist’s musical signature as well as his committed spiritual quest.

PREMIERE: Illich Mujica - The Constant Impermanence (KARLÏ Remix)

Sutera will be part of of a new compilation: Katermukke & With You: Rumours by the Lake which is a unique collaboration in sound between Berlin and Cape Town.The compilation speaks to the soundtrack of this festival, curating a dynamic spectrum of melodic house & techno. 

Sutera is a dreamy and groovy melodic house production based solely on Yannek's recordings, samples and patches. For this he was out in nature, kitchen and his closets to keep the sound as diverse and organic as possible. It's this attention to detail and obsession with everything from recording to mastering that makes this track special and so unique. 

Freshly hatched and fancifully feathered, DJ and producer Yannek Maunz supplies the world with deep, melodic and synth-based melodic house beats he cooks up in his shambolic bedroom studio in Berlin Kreuzberg. From his very first release on, he managed to manifest a signature sound made up of analog synths, organic percussion, and a knack for memorable melodies. Over the last two years, this sound has been continuously pushing its way through dancing crowds and streaming platforms. Despite a steady stream of releases on established labels like Parquet, 3000°, Stil Vor Talent and Katermukke, he co-founded his own label YION in 2020. Here, he not only releases music under his own name but also with his friends and long term collaborators Felix Raphael, Brascon and Johanson.

It was never too genre specific. Minimal, Melodic Techno, Downtempo, Indie Dance or Alternative Pop were discussed and celebrated among friends. Powel - Perelin der Nachtwald

Our beloved duo @Madota is back on Saisons with their first original EP. A project that embodies a pivotal chapter for them after a long time apart on different sides of the world. After experiencing humanity on pause from different coordinates, Behnam and Mehran finally reunited in Berlin, picked up the energy where they left off and dove straight into the studio with a new approach to their creative process.

In the light of everything happening in their motherland of Iran, they feel more called than ever to celebrate their heritage. In this 2-track EP, you can feel Madota’s roots. It’s a voyage into their past that taps into the energies and the stories of where they come from…and it only feels like the beginning.

'Roobah' is playful with colorful roots. The duo created this track from blending piano pieces of Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou - an Ethiopian nun who they grew up to love, mixed with Ahmad Shamloo’s audio recreation of "The Little Prince". The audio tapes and CDs of Shamloo’s work became illegal after the Islamic Revolution.

The result of this sonic painting is a celebration of both stories in a deep and jazzy groove with warm soulful harmonies. Dusty and playful. An ode to life and freedom.

'Del' is the darker and deeper track of the pair. The groove is rooted in a dense and weighed down rhythm coupled with shreds of dusty pianos. Behnam’s voice guides the story, singing 'Del' which means ‘Heart’ in farsi. The lyrics come from an old persian poem that goes something like:

O heart, if you love
Seek comfort
In the heart of day and night

The track embodies Madota’s overflow of emotions that come up in reviving their relationship with their roots while also honoring the courage of their people in their fight for freedom.

A part of the proceeds from this release will go to support families in Iran.
