A Farewell to Arms

Conner Eko is an indie pop singer-songwriter, educator, and astrophysicist based in Vallejo, California, with a musical career spanning over two decades. He was the lead singer and co-songwriter of the Pittsburgh-based indie rock band Falling Andes before embarking on a solo career. His musical influences are vast and range from David Bowie, U2, Jeff Buckley, Coldplay, INXS, John Coltrane, Peter Gabriel, Muddy Waters, James Brown, Al Green, Art Blakey, Grizfolk, Tears for Fears, Dustin O’Halloran, and many others. Eko self-produced and released his debut single and music video, "SINK," in 2021, which gained recognition when remixed by Grammy award-winning DJ StoneBridge in 2022, receiving radio play on BPM on SiriusXM satellite radio.

Eko's journey has not been without challenges. After a hiatus from music during which he pursued a new career in science and education—working as a high school science teacher—a traumatic brain injury in March 2021 exacerbated his struggles with major depression and anxiety. His time away from music deepened his resolve to reconnect with and pursue his deepest passion: songwriting. This ultimately led to a significant recovery through psychedelic integration therapy. He is currently working on new material that reflects his personal journey, relationships, and philosophical themes related to humanity’s place in the cosmos.

Eko completed his PhD in astrophysics in spring 2024, focusing on exoplanets to support the search for life beyond Earth at the SETI Institute while incorporating a global network of citizen scientists. He is set to release a new live in-studio single and music video for his original song, “Standing Up,” on January 24, 2025, across major music streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc.) and video services (Apple Music, Tidal, Vevo, YouTube). The single, featuring a full band arrangement with piano, drums, bass, and background vocals, was filmed by local filmmaker Aaron Japzon. Shortly after its release, Eko will debut a short documentary on his YouTube channel, exploring the song’s themes of overcoming depression and raising awareness for mental health. The documentary will include interviews, personal narratives, and behind-the-scenes footage, with the goal of encouraging support for mental health initiatives.

In addition to the live version, Eko will produce and release a fully produced studio version of “Standing Up” in early 2025. He has also begun recording additional tracks, which—alongside “Standing Up”—will form his first full-length album, tentatively slated for release in 2026. Several singles from the album are planned for release throughout 2025 and early 2026 as they are completed, though the timeline may adjust depending on other upcoming opportunities.

By 2026, Eko envisions completing his debut album while preparing for a potential new project that merges pop singer-songwriter music with diverse cultural influences, including traditional and contemporary sounds. This project will explore cosmic themes and the human experience through music and storytelling, drawing inspiration from scientific concepts and cultural narratives. If support for this ambitious venture materializes, Eko plans to adapt the release of his album to accommodate the opportunity to pursue this deeply collaborative and culturally immersive work.
