From the album sleeve notes: 
'The Arctic explorer and Royal Navy officer Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) mapped over 3000 miles of Canadian coastline in the early 19th century. He became a national hero in Britain, much loved by the press and public. In 1845 he offered to lead an expedition to find the North-West Passage which links the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Mariners had searched in vain for 300 years for this profitable trade route. He left in May with 2 ships, Erebus and Terror, both well equipped sailing vessels with steam engines for ice breaking. In July they were spotted in Baffin Bay by a whaling ship but were then never seen again. Many years later it was discovered that the ships had become trapped in the ice and Franklin had died in 1847. His wife Lady Jane Franklin spent 13 years and all of her fortune funding expeditions to find him. This song tells the story from her point of view. '
