Message To Bears - Maps - 01 Sun Breaking Through

This all started as a middle of the night improvisation… it was quite mystifying to me because I quite simply had the sudden urge to sit and play very late one evening and out came most of this piece. I suppose it was all deep within me already. I have decided to call this work "An Interior Pilgrimage" because it is akin to a musical diary entry from me. I hope you all enjoy it. The performance can also be watched on my YouTube channel, be sure to like and subscribe there as well. Do also explore and follow my Instagram as there is a lot of material there. The artwork is, “Sympathy”, by surrealist painter, Remedios Varo. It is a work that has always registered with me deeply. Thus, I felt it a perfect match for this most personal piece. Thank you.

‘The Birds’ are three tracks released together as the lead singles from the upcoming album, aptly named ‘Sketches’, due to its stripped down nature, is bejeweled by thematic undercurrents. 

‘Sketches’ serves to reintroduce listeners to Ackroyd’s most stunning pieces from her previous albums, all of which have been reworked into ‘acoustic’ solo piano arrangements alongside four brand new unheard pieces, which offer a taste of a new forthcoming record. The mini album sees a July release in preparation for a brand new full length album to be released in October, and One Little Indian will also reissue Ackroyd’s back catalogue on CD and vinyl alongside the new mini-album.

Sound In Silence is very pleased to welcome J.R Alexander (aka Message To Bears) with his new Moments EP.

Being already well known under the moniker of Message To Bears, the multi-instrumentalist Jerome Alexander has released so far two albums, one EP and one split album, all of them on the recently closed Dead Pilot Records.

This time he releases his new EP under a different alias, choosing for the first time to use his real name as the new tracks take a more electronic direction.
Moments EP is slightly less ambient and more beat based than his previous releases, while some of its tracks could have easily been released under the name of Message To Bears.

On Moments EP, J.R Alexander demonstrates a progression in his discography, creating five excellent tracks of beautiful soundscapes, using layers of electronics, warm synths, ethereal samples, gorgeous acoustic guitars, glockenspiel, piano and viola.
The finishing touch on the great sound of Moments EP was applied by the carefully done mastering of George Mastrokostas (aka Absent Without Leave).

This is a limited edition of 300 handmade and hand-numbered collectible copies, packaged in a lovely hand-stamped recycled cardboard envelope with the front cover image printed on a polaroid style photo paper and an insert printed on nice fabric paper.

"We both love the music of early Brian Eno, William Basinski etc and have been making tape loops and drones for years… This track originated from a series of tape loops. When we got the vocals from Jed and Lucia they just fitted the track so well. We then wrote a more upbeat end section, which we thought worked really well with the vocals. We've always liked tracks that take unexpected turns at the end, and this was certainly something we tried to do in many of the tracks on the album."
