Scott Ryser and his partner & wife, Rachel Webber, were the principal, songwriters, synth players, singers and filmmakers for the UNITS. The UNITS were one of America’s first electronic new wave bands and have been cited along with The Screamers and Suicide as pioneers of the music genre “synthpunk”.

TenGrams rework the track into a uptempo synthpop with drum machine, synths work and a healthy 80s vibe that harks back to the original.

Speaking ahead of their latest release, frontman Seb revealed: “This song is about a dream I had, where my friend Ted told me he didn’t want to be my friend anymore because I was getting too drunk and making a fool of myself. When I told him about this dream he told me that maybe I shouldn’t drink so much because I do make a fool of myself. I’ve been in the shame cube ever since”.

No Constraint - Public Body

A journey into a mixture of sonic memories from Puglia, in the South East of Italy, through music by artists from the region and recordings that took place locally by musicians passing by. The show includes traditional music genres such as Pizzica, the forgotten story from the early nineties of its electronic counterpart Tecnopizzica, folk songs from cassette tapes sold at street stalls, and ballads sung in local dialects. All together with a multitude of other stuff spanning from an edit of 'Salento Love', a dubplate recorded by Busy Signal in 2013, to experimental Electronic music, Industrial Noise and Ambient releases from underground labels such as Canti Magnetici and the cutting-edge catalogue from the eighties of Minus Habens Records.

Pile of Guilt

The Globeflower Masters Vol. 2 is the slightly edgier and more grown-up sequel to Mark and Glenn's 2021 debut album. For this excursion, the Brighton-based duo wanted to lean a little further into their European film soundtrack influences, with inspiration mined from the works of Stefano Torossi, David Shire, and Roger Webb. This expansion of their sound builds upon the rich tapestry of cinematic funk à la David Axelrod, Serge Gainsbourg and Morricone that fashioned Vol. 1.

The Deluxe Edition of the album features five new tracks, comprising two new original recordings, a piano solo version of the closing track from the original album, and two remixes from Project Gemini and Andres y Xavi.

‘Shaded By Your Side’ takes things right back to the moody, dark and Axelrod-inflected sound of their first album. Much of this track was played in single takes to try and retain as much of the urgency and spontaneity as possible. 

‘Return to Salvador’ is described by the duo as if “Shuggie Otis and Marcos Valle have one too many caipirinhas and decide to visit outer space”. It fuses together Mark's space sounds and floaty pianos with Spanish guitar and busy, melodic bass creating a musical trip from the grounded and earthy sounds of Vol.1’ to the more upwards-looking and musically diverse sound of Vol.2.

The remixes give a different flavour to the release, but both pay homage to the original recordings. Sharing a mutual admiration for each other’s work, it seemed like a natural choice to ask Project Gemini to contribute. Here is what he had to say about his rework, “I’m a big fan of both volumes of Mark and Glenn’s ‘Globeflower’ LP’s and it was a huge honour to get a chance to rework one of my favourite tunes from Vol.2. There are many great layers to ‘A Voyage North’ so it was a lot of fun to choose my favourite elements, then put some Project Gemini flavours and sounds into the mix and create something new whilst hopefully keeping some of the spirit of the original track. A darker, fuzzier take on the album version”.

When Glenn first passed the original album to Steve KIW, his collaborator in Balearic production outfit Andres y Xavi, this was one of two tracks which he picked out as having some particularly Balearic DNA. As such, pushing this concept to its logical conclusion seemed like the obvious thing to do. There’s a shaded sunset sound paired with a 4/4 beat of Latin-leaning.

hi this album art pic is not me, it’s chloe! @user-182505760?p  🤍 worked in the music for only a day and a half my bad guys its kinda a rushed job. i was in the hospital for 3 days recently and still reccovering a lil, but the field recording is by chloe, and i added a gaming clip too of our win celebration with miranda on apex legends at the end. our first win with all 3 of us. gang. chloe hasnt made music before (unless she has a secret DJ alter ego i dont know about) haha, but yeah i really honestly pressured her to make a music name and put it on this song. i just think its cool, for me, writing this it was  inspired by just hanging with the girls and hearing about what was going on with her, and it would of been made without that experience just listening so i think its an important part of the song and deserves credit, even if she didnt produce the track. she added alot in my mind, and even offered up this cool picture for the album art :D after i heard the field recording of chloe’s neighborhood it inspired me to change the whole direction of the song but im really happy with what i did here and i hope it fills you guys with lots of energy to take charge of bad situations, and change them - even if its outside of your comfort zone, to learn to see how strong you are, and that you can do anything. - big love
