Ambient music seems to be fascinated by nature, oceans and the sky. For this KapTep release I wanted to explore the sky and more importantly all we can’t see, the millions of signals and mysteries that it hides.

I wanted to leave room for the songs to breathe and allow plenty of open spaces within them. At times these compositions may seem empty, that is by design. Although the current environment is to pick a track or two add them to your playlist.

I hope you will spend 49 minutes and listen to this as a body of work, as it was recorded to be listened to in one continuous sitting. In addition to the 6 original tracks there are two wonderful remixes added by Arrival In Eden, and Sacred Seeds.

Numbers Station – I’ve always been fascinated with them. The mystery and intrigue.

Naming the Sky – Melancholy drifting and not a care in the world.

LA Scanner – I simply love the voyeur nature of a cheap scanner.

Cold Luck Moon – Blurred images, sounds and emotions. Plus, three words that don’t mean anything together as a title.

One Hundred Miles Until Sunrise

Dreamy, melancholic, peaceful, or just plain gorgeous? As long as your ears are open, the sound world of Yui Onodera will take you where YOU want to go. From simple means (piano, guitar, computer), Onodera draws complex materials, and then mixes them back into deceptively simple results. The work draws inspiration (and its title) from an abstract structure thought up by architect Christopher Alexander. What you get is quiet background music if you leave it at that or, if you are willing to take the time to listen, a deep immersive journey.

Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Yui Onodera is a musician, a composer, and the founder of Critical Path. He studied both music and architecture, which explains his uncanny grasp of spatiality in music. His method consists in blending delicate instrumental lines with field recordings and computer treatments to create quiet, ambient electroacoustic pieces. This approach is akin to artists like Machinefabriek, Stephen Vitiello, and Chihei Hatakeyama.

"Semi Lattice" is Onodera's second solo album to be released in 2015 (the first one was "sinkai" on Japanese label Arctic Tone), after eight years of solo silence. In the interval, Onodera pursued several fruitful collaborations with musicians and groups like The Beautiful Schizophonic, Pjusk, Vadim Bondarenko, Mizkami Ryuta, and Baskaru recording artist Celer. All these projects seem to have informed "Semi Lattice" in some way, Onodera's solo works having grown lusher, fuller, and more fully-formed.

The fifth volume of 'Ambient Archives' comes with music by Shuta Yasukochi, Surroundyou, Slow Clinic and Logic Moon. A wide range of ambient lines, guitars, beautiful piano chords, hazy textures and field recordings.

Reissue of the first The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation record from 2007. The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation is the much-noticed free-form, drone metal / jazz alter-ego of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, the band formed by Jason Kohnen and Giedon Kiers.

Starting with free-form soundtracks to silent films such as Murnau's “Nosferatu” and Lang's “Metropolis”, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble gave birth in 2006 to its first eponymous album. The downbeat ambient jazz of this first release was however only one avatar of this coterie, as demonstrated by the birth of The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation. The semi-improvised, dark, heavy, “sludgy” counterpart to the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, the Corporation leaves all borders behind, focusing this time on mesmerizing, doom-ridden drones and melodies, combined with the jazzy grooves and melodies of the cello and saxophones. Recording live in Amsterdam in February 2007, “Doomjazz Future Corpses!” is a self-described “soundscape of barren wastelands, droning into memories of future's past”. If the The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble debut was paying homage to The Quay Brothers, this album awakens the third, twisted, twin. A snapshot of the band's free-form sessions, in which there is no solid structure or time frame but a focus on cataclysmic improvisation and feeling, this album stands as a captivating dirge of raw guitar drones, saxophone and trombones emancipated from their classic jazz boundaries and abysmal bass throbs. An highly disorientating yet convincing journey through the deep realms of murky drone jazz / metal, heavy, suffocating and unfettered.

Enigmatic Australian ensemble Tangents return with a new studio album two years after the release of New Bodies. The Australian Music Prize-nominated New Bodies thrust Tangents’ peculiar blend of furious improvisation and precision production into the international spotlight. More tension and intention pervade Tangents’ fourth album, Timeslips, demonstrating a thoughtful maturation of spontaneous ideas and more deliberately abstract assembly. With breathtaking, rhythmic drumming and adept production driving the various moods, Timeslips emerges from greater live performance and carefully constructed compositions. The brittle skittering mallets of “Exaptation,” raucous guitar of “Debris,” and processed trumpet of “Vessel” add new timbres to their existing palette of jazz drums, melancholy piano, throbbing cello and swirling glitched ambience. Mostly recorded in a single day, just before guitarist Sia Ahmad left the band, only the bravest, most intense moments from the original session remain intact on Timeslips.
