Yo escribi esta cancion a las orillas del Lago Atitlan en Guatemala, inspirada por el espiritu de los Maya quienes siguen luchando por mantener su cultura y su coneccion a la tierra y el agua, reconociendo nuestra unidad con los elementos y lo sagrado de todo...
La cancion la grabe aqui en Santa Fe, Nuevo Mejico, donde ahora tambien estamos luchando por el agua y la dignidad.

For a long time I was intrigued by Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral, I went to visit her birthplace and wrote a one-woman play about her life, creating songs from her poems, which I performed in many venues including Teatro Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico, and The Armory for the Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Later my mother informed me that Gabriela Mistral was a good friend of my Chilean grandfather and actually took me in her arms as a baby saying "this one is mine" !  I wrote the music for my song "Me Miro" using lyrics from her poem "Extasis".

I wrote this song while traveling in Guatemala, getting to know the people, the land and their Mayan traditions. "In Lak'ech" is their ancient greeting which means "I am another you". I was honored to be invited to sing this song in public for the first time to a large gathering during a Mayan Fire Ceremony at the Mayan Temple Ruins of Tikal, Guatemala. Joining me are Santa Fe singers Stephanie Hatfield, Laurianne Fiorentino,  Magraieth Chase and Busy McCarroll who arranged the vocals.
