"Roxane Métayer came to play les ateliers claus December 2019. She performed on our 1st floor where she surrounded herself with her violin, electronics and field recordings.

Born in France and currently residing in Brussels, Roxane Métayer is a multidisciplinary artist. Learning the violin at a young age, she also developed herself as a visual artist, creating drawings, sculptures in uncommon materials as soap, and in recent years video. Her work as a musician is of an equally spontaneous nature. The violin is often taking the melodic lead, but at the same time serves a drone background."

EINATH is an intuitive and absorbing first-time collaboration between Mexico-based artists Alejandro Morse, Cian, and Eduardo Padilla. Longtime contemporaries familiar with each others’ work, the four tracks on the album amount to an active and considerate conversation: The musicians harness a private shared language of their creative relationship to generate a work of immediacy, bemusement, and prescience.  

In their own words the artists offered some insight into the making of EINATH: 

”Recorded one pale evening just before the outbreak, on top of a partially abandoned building at the edge of León, EINATH rises as a long, focused, and very lucky improvisational composition made without exchanging a single verbal cue, choosing a structure, or arriving at even the most basic understanding on how to go about things and what rules to follow. The results were then slightly edited, adding no overdubs, and presented with the original, organic flow of the live session.”  

Underneath layers of electric and acoustic guitar, modular synth, and digital processing, the resulting drone cultivates a thick, almost premonitory atmosphere—like low-hanging bruised-colored clouds before a heavy rain. All the while, as if to combat the stillness of the city below, underlying melodies steer these organic gestures into a cohesive, exploratory vehicle that descends increasingly deeper into itself. It seeks shelter, waiting, aware of the storm that is brewing. 

Despite EINATH’s in-the-moment composition, its underlying nature still retains the intention and energy shared between the artists, revealing how each of their individual practices connect without strategy to compose a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Commissioned by the legendary concert venue ‘Bad Bonn’ in Düdingen, Switzerland, and the KRAN project, ‘Bonn Route’ is a collaborative album by electronic musician Feldermelder and percussionist Julian Sartorius. It is both a location-based sound walk that can be experienced on-site in the village of Düdingen, and as a full length album. The eleven tracks are a sonic homage to, and an artistic interpretation of a small village in Switzerland’s heartland. 
Building on his practice of site specific performances and percussive sound walks, Julian Sartorius captured sounds and patterns at eleven locations: the train station and cemetary, on the banks of a stream, on a bycicle bridge, and in an intimate cavern above the village’s lake, among others. Sartorius’ documented the soundscape of the village in field recordings, recorded samples of objects and captured percussive patterns by playing on the architecture and vegetation found on-site. 
Feldermelder then processed these recordings into eleven compositions, preserving the locations’ acoustic identities, but expanding on Sartorius’ material. Besides the bassline on ‘Velobrücke’, Feldermelder used nothing but sound reactive synthesis and resonators to create additional sounds, layers and tracks, thus multiplying the spectrum and rhythms of the original material. ‘Bonn Route’ is a musical journey rooted in sounding and resonating with the world around us. 

Feldermelder is a Swiss musician, sound designer, producer and installation artist. He is co-founder of -OUS and part of the audiovisual collective Encor.studio. He has previously released several releases on -OUS, both solo and in collaboration with Sara Oswald.

Drummer, artist and percussionist Julian Sartorius’ precise and multi-layered rhythmical patterns are keen excursions into the hidden tones of found objects and prepared instruments, bridging the gap between organic timbres and the vocabulary of (experimental) electronic music. He has previously released his album «Locked Grooves» on -OUS.

To breathe, is to activate a certain space. Short breaths, deep breaths, dying breaths or sensual ones - they evoke variety of features and peculiarities that the breath embodies. Breath is also a precondition of voice, and further, of a spoken word. Paving the path for every physiological and philosophical activity, breath is essential to all we do and all that we are. 
Auditory situations in this piece are fluidly changing from one to another in a constant fluctuation and transfiguration of the musical material. Acoustic spaces inside of which the music is being situated, give room for the sounds to appear, to change and disappear, develop and transform, and inside of these spaces, the ear can swift freely from one sound object to another in a spatial and non-linear listening experience.

Commissioned for the Tingles & Clicks project by the Musikprotokoll 2020 and supported by the program "Creative Europe" of the European Union and SHAPE platform.

The work was presented in ambisonics, binaural and stereo formats. It was composed for an interactive environment, and the sections (structure, duration) were open. This is one of its renderings (structure and format-wise), made for the presentation at Radio Belgrade in 2020.

Presented at Musikprotokoll, Graz, at Radio Belgrade 3, CYNETART festival and Ö1 radio (Zeit-Ton radio show).

Consumer Waste is a low impact imprint for the publication of contemporary experimental music. Jointly run by Stephen Cornford & Samuel Rodgers, it aims to document and disseminate their collaborative work as well as that of their peers and contemporaries.

In an era when cultural material is most often received through digital means, the publication of physical documents has become for many musicians simply an expedient means to put their work in the hands of the pirates. We welcome this state of affairs and will restrict our releases to editions of one or two hundred, safe in the knowledge that should the work appeal to a wider audience, it will be downloaded by them. As such the discs will carry no official copyright.

We tacitly accept that cultural production, where it simply provides yet another avenue of our consumer driven society is a morally questionable activity and have no wish to support such a system. For these reasons, the label is to be run on a strictly not-for profit basis, with all proceeds going either direct to the artist or funding the activities of the label by providing opportunities for artists to collaborate, perform, record and publish their work. The label's name derives from the 100% post-consumer waste materials that we endeavour to use in our handmade packaging.
