Continental’s own A&R and multi-tasking, all around vibe meister DJ drops his debut solo single ‘Yeah!’, the send off to his no-nonsense DJ Tools series on the label.

Pioneer of the Parisian electronic scene, long relocated to London, Jerry Bouthier joins passionately the dots between music and fashion. The resident dj of east London’s infamous and now defunct BoomBox night knows a good tune when he hears one as his Continental label’s output testifies. His celebrated dj mixes for Kitsuné, Emerald & Doreen and his own Heart & Soul series are captivating labours of love that have attracted followers the world over. His stylish upbeat dj sets, blending genres and everything else fancied by this iconoclast Frenchman, never fail to rock the party from one continent to another. 

Also a sound-designer for fashion, his post-modern soundtracks for Vivienne Westwood – seamlessly merging classical into world music, punk into cosmic disco and more - have become the stuff of legends. In the studio, he produces as JBAG - his baleariscopop project with Andrea Gorgerino - together they’ve released 4 singles (inc. tropical anthem ‘Mogadisco’) and remixed Two Door Cinema Club, RÜFÜS, Ladyhawke… however it’s now time for a new recording chapter.

Jerry explains why he’s never released a record under his own name before:
“I come from a band/group background and as long as I wasn’t producing tunes strictly on my own, it didn’t seem fair to the other musicians involved in the creative process with me. That’s why we started JBAG for instance, the contribution of my musical sidekick Andrea Gorgerino is huge, it wouldn’t have made sense to release our stuff as Jerry Bouthier…
With time I’ve acquired confidence and felt I could produce some decent DJ tunes on my own, the kind of funky, housey stuff I play in my sets, nothing as musical or song-led as JBAG – it wouldn’t be fun to do the same thing. The idea of delivering a series of DJ Tools soon came to me, you know simple yet effective tracks that work the dancefloor well without fuss…
So I locked myself in the studio with a pile of old vinyl and came up with ‘Yeah!’, my first attempt at going back to house basics, fusing the soulful vocals of yesterday’s NYC dancefloors to the more underground, bassline vibe of London.”

On the remix front Barcelona duo Mordisco, takes the deep house route with a sensual chugger that’ll work its wonders in the early hours. Next another duo, Tel Aviv’s B1ZB1Z, turns out a dreamy disco reinterpretation spiced-up by a zest of indie.

Saturday night in Milan is Club Domani at internationally renowned institution Plastic. Its two resident djs, Andrea Ratti and Sergio Tavelli, have established a ‘party 'til you drop’ hardline with their brash and wild disco/house soundtrack celebrated in hedonistic fashion by the club’s drag-queens and flamboyant movers & shakers from across town and beyond, a lively, cross-generational fashion/music/art crowd of individuals and fantastico characters.

For their second single, the pair teamed up with French dj/producer Jerry Bouthier, fashion stalwart (Kitsuné, Vivienne Westwood, BoomBox…) and passionate Continental Records A&R . In the studio the three djs sealed a trusty friendship setting out to pay homage to seminal producer Bobby O whose trademark raw, camp synths gave a unique twist to electronic disco.

Dazzling actress/creature Cristina Bugatty, who runs an amusing YouTube channel and has dipped into reality tv, completed the picture delivering a manifesto glorifying the uniqueness in ‘each & everyone’ with classic lines borrowed to Vogueing cult flick ‘Paris Is Burning’ (“You can become anything and do anything, right here, right now and it won’t be questioned. We are not going to be shady, just fierce…”).

The result, ‘You Be’, is a timeless, man-machine disco thumper boasting a proud message loud: Whoever You Are, Be Yourself! Remix-wise, who better than respected house-heads Hard Ton getting their 303 out for a vintage, jackin’ re-rub? Next, veteran Julien Plaisir de France and Leo Hellden AKA Slove go back to the former's ravey Sweet Light roots bringing extra funk and punch. Uabos, resident dj of Milan’s high-profile tech gang Le Cannibale, picks a futuristic approach and goes the extra mile.

Jerry Bouthier’s imprint Continental drops the second part of the re-release of Scarlet Fantastic ‘No Memory’ on the trail of the already available first EP which boasted a glittery rework from The Swiss’ Luke Million and a heads-down jam from Monday Club. 
Here the forgotten 80s hit has been given another new lease of life thanks to a batch of respectful remixes from JBAG (it’s official, they’re going afro!), dub-house-disco master Hifi Sean (ex-Soup Dragons frontman) and lush nu-disco wunderkind Pherotone.

The combination of Maggie K de Monde’s visionary pro-hippy flights of lyricism, throbbing T-Rex glam riffs and solid italodisco beat spiced by some forward-thinking 12” reworks turned Scarlet Fantastic ‘No Memory’ into one of the anthems of the Summer of Love’s balearic generation in the late 80s/early 90s, championed by Andy Weatherall and Boys Own in London as well as Alfredo in Ibiza.
Since her illustrious career as singer in chart-topping 80s bands Scarlet Fantastic and Swans Way, Maggie K de Monde’s never stopped creating and performing music, regularly developing new associations and collaborations. After connecting on social networks, Continental’s A&R Jerry Bouthier hooked her up with Osaka djs Kill The Hero to feature on their single ‘Surrender’ (Continental 005), a strikingly lyrical tune which came with inspired reinterpretations from Australia’s Shazam, Play Paul AKA Tulip, Reflex, Lancelot, Mannequine…). Jerry soon offered Maggie to revive ‘No Memory’ by handing it to a varied cast of remixers who would truly do justice to the enthralling spirit of this lost gem.
First in EP 2’s remix seat is JBAG. Bouthier’s music project with Andrea Gorgerino, switches the turbo groove on without losing any of its melodic power, stretching the boundaries with a bass-heavy funky guitar-led monster that combines ecstatic pianos and a bassline keen to blow systems up. Recently road-tested in South Africa, this remix is testifying of the Franco-Italian duo’s new deeper, tribal mood. Next Hifi Sean provides one of his trademark housed-up dubs. Once the Soup Dragons’ lead singer and the toast of all Madchester-infused dancefloors with the smash ‘I’m Free’, Sean has reinvented himself as a purveyor of fine beats behind the decks and in the studio. Third is Pherotone AKA Eren Akkan, this Turkish young gun relocated in Barcelona has quickly made his mark as a slick producer looking beyond the nu-disco enclosure. Last but not least Maggie’s current project Mighty K offers a final reinterpretation that goes back to the original’s pop drama whilst adding modern twists.
As relevant today as it was 27 years ago – not least for its timeless lyrics, Continental would be hard pressed picking up a more fitting manifesto – Scarlet Fantastic ‘No Memory’ is back to life operating its magic again onto unsuspecting new generations.

For its 11th release Jerry Bouthier’s imprint Continental is feeling soulful by hooking up with Canada’s Cyclist who delivers torrid new single ‘Shine’ featuring Maiko Watson on vocals.

New Torontonian-via-Vancouver-via-Winnipeg, Mark ‘Cyclist’ Penner has been a fixture in Canada's live funk scene for years as part of  impressive live dance outfit Moses Mayes. Enamoured with the post-disco, electronic paths dance music took in the early 80s - electro funk, proto-house etc - it was only a matter of time before Penner would catch the dancefloor bug and turn his ample production skills and musicianship to his solo project Cyclist.

With internationally acclaimed releases on Homebreakin' and Punchout! not mentioning an array of remixes – including his rendition (with buddy Pat Lok) of The Rapture’s "How Deep is Your Love" voted winner of a DFA remix competition by the band itself and an inspired indie-dance take on Shindu ‘Just Go’ for Continental) - Cyclist is soon growing into an important producer. His impeccable references by no means tying him up to models but on the contrary inspiring him to continuously push things further.

‘Shine’ sweats and drips like a block party jam on a hot New York day, D-Train and Tom Tom Club lost on the Paradise Garage’s dancefloor…  phat chunky beats, swirling skippy keyboards and guest singer/songwriter Maiko Watson (also Canadian, with an enviable solo career) belts out her gut-wrenching delivery with as much conviction as yesterday’s legends Gwen Guithrie or Chaka Khan. Yes ‘Shine’ is electronic soul that rocks.

Remix-wise, an imposing cast has got down to business with this little gem of a song. One of Sweden’s finest exports Drop Out Orchestra plug the vocoder and stay faithful to the original while opting for a more big room angle. Next, relying on his trademark  spaced-out synths, live bass and perc, New York’s far-out groover Lou Teti lets wild on the pitchbend and expertly dubs things out. Completing the package, Chicago’s Rogue Vogue gives ‘Shine’ a rugged, jackin’ house make-over complete with tasty pianos. Beware this could be the release’s dark horse.

After a long stretch of remixes for the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Ladyhawke, S-Express, Gigamesh, Punks Jump Up, Kamp!, Jupiter… the London-based DJs/producers have completed their second single and what a party starter it is. Filled with exotic marimbas, carnival steel-drums and an infectious ‘Pop-Corn’-flavoured synth lead, ‘Mogadisco’ is an exhilarating yet almost spiritual ode to hedonism that implores you to loosen up and enjoy the moment.

Bouthier’s experience at rocking dancefloors with personal and inspired sets, always looking for exciting new artists whilst also digging the past (he was resident dj of east London’s infamous BoomBox), has made him a reliable, trustworthy spinner regularly linked to Kitsuné; not forgetting his long-running relationships with designer Vivienne Westwood and others, crafting esoteric soundtracks for the catwalk as well as providing fun at fashion week parties. On the other hand Italian ex-pat Gorgerino’s musical pedigree is impressive, the classically trained musician turned skilled producer is as comfortable penning profound ear-catching melodies as he is riding the mixing desk with fervour. The pair like to think they make Balearic pop incorporating their many influences. JBAG is now starting to perform together live dj sets with keyboard and FX.

On the remix front Milan’s Fare Soldi provide one of their trademark funky chuggers just on the right side of sanity. Berlin’s Pharaoh Black Magic goes all mystic and elegiac while keeping the pumping factor high. Last, Athens’ latest prodigal son ELIOT delivers a deliciously 90s rewrite that’s actually not that tongue-in-cheek.

As the saying goes, it’s not where you’re from but where you’re at, as Continental’s

This time, for its 14th release, Jerry Bouthier’s imprint is jetting off to Jakarta, Indonesia, to hook up with local electrodisco heroes: Mjolnir. Inspired by European synth pop, Mjolnir, the brainchild of Nara Anindyaguna and Catra Adhiwardana, dub their sound ‘dark disco funk’. The pair’s been getting steady, growing love from the best blogs out there thanks to winning melodies, skilled musicianship and a fresh - not so quite easy to pigeon-hole - approach that’s seen them remix The Chemical Brothers, Chromeo and more.

The EP contains four brand new reinterpretations taking the gorgeous ‘Just A Boy’ to new heights. JBAG aka Continental bosses Jerry Bouthier and Andrea Gorgerino could not resist giving it a glam make-over that’s both nostalgic and uplifting at the same time. Fresh from their debut “Bombay Night Story”, Continental’s last release, Switzerland’s Mannequine deliver an ambitious re-rub that climaxes with housey pianos. Next, Vancouver-based rising producer Pat Lok gets rough and funky without losing the soulful gist of the original composition. Finally Helsinki’s Castletics combines robodisco groove and timeless euro flavours.

Having recently celebrated its second birthday with the release of ‘100% Continental’, a best-of mix conceived by its A&R/DJ Jerry Bouthier, Continental records now stops off in Japan for Boys Get Hurt’s new EP: ‘Your Love’ featuring Cinema Citizen.

Already noticed for his remixes (Reflex, Chela, Autokratz, DCUP, Pherotone…) and with several releases under his belt (including a track on the ‘Bonjour Colette’ compilation), Tokyo-based Yuki Abe AKA producer/DJ Boys Get Hurt gets his inspiration from the melancholic feelings the end of summer inevitably brings about, a personal and evocative sensibility in tune with the land of the rising sun’s delicate culture. Yuki expertly crafts bouncy disco-house music with sprinklings of electronica, indie, ambient, hip-hop and R&B – perfect 2014 pop to our ears.

On ‘Your Love’, a meaningful song to practice your best dance moves to, he has teamed up with male vocalist Cinema Citizen - Nobuki Akiyama, borrowed to band Ykiki Beat - for a boyish declaration of love in all its teenage glory.  Dutch rising star NSFW gives it a slick makeover with a deeper twist, whilst French hopeful Avantime takes a slightly more introspective route. Let’s not forget the sublime B-side ‘Sea Through’, a tantalizing, hypnotic disco merry-go-round which shows the prolific Boys Get Hurt is far from being a one-trick pony.

Following in the footsteps of last summer’s mighty ‘Mogadisco’, 'Through Blue’ unfolds another sad yet happy melody albeit locked into a slick, pulsing groove. Topped by the boyish vocals of Tomek Szpaderski - he who with his two Kamp! accomplices is soon putting Poland on the map with a personal and inspired blend of indie-dance – 'Through Blue’ takes a meaningful turn bringing extra depth to an already endearing, emotive backing track led by nostalgic steel drums and pianos.

As well as JBAG's useful instrumental mix, this second 4 track EP includes reworks from Continental label mates Mjolnir (Indonesia) taking a phat darker, deeper route (did you say big room?), Saint Pauli (Germany) opting for hands-in-the-air bliss (and the euphoria to match) whilst James Curd (Australia), fresh from signing to Exploited, has let his imagination run wild and provided extra vocals for a slightly more introspective skippy number.

This 17th records release on JBAG’s own imprint Continental, adds yet another nuance to the label’s palette of dj-friendly underground pop music.

Bringing a new dimension to deejaying, the London-based Franco-Italian duo comprising of Jerry Bouthier (dj/sound-designer, longtime Kitsuné collaborator) and Andrea Gorgerino (the pair's studio/musician virtuoso) is now performing live dj sets as a unit with Andrea playing live keytar over JBAG's own productions and other faves mixed by Jerry. The combination of Maggie K de Monde’s visionary pro-hippy flights of lyricism, throbbing T-Rex glam riffs and solid PWL disco beat spiced by some challenging 12” reworks turned Scarlet Fantastic ‘No Memory’ into one of the anthems of the Summer of Love’s balearic generation in the late 80s/early 90s, championed by Andy Weatherall and Boys Own in London as well as Alfredo in Ibiza.
 
Since her illustrious career as singer in the chart topping 80s bands Scarlet Fantastic and Swans Way, Maggie K de Monde’s never stopped creating and performing  music, regularly developing new associations and arrays of collaborations. After meeting by luck on social nertworks, Continental’s A&R Jerry Bouthier soon offered Maggie to revive this lost gem by giving it to a varied cast of remixers that would truly do justice to the spirit of the song.

Jerry Bouthier’s imprint Continental drops the second part of the re-release of Scarlet Fantastic ‘No Memory’ on the trail of the already available first EP which boasted a glittery rework from The Swiss’ Luke Million and a heads-down jam from Monday Club.

Here the forgotten 80s hit has been given another new lease of life thanks to a batch of respectful remixes from JBAG (it’s official, they’re going afro!), dub-house-disco master Hifi Sean (ex-Soup Dragons frontman) and lush nu-disco wunderkind Pherotone.

Jerry soon offered Maggie to revive ‘No Memory’ by handing it to a varied cast of remixers who would truly do justice to the enthralling spirit of this lost gem.

First in EP 2’s remix seat is JBAG. Bouthier’s music project with Andrea Gorgerino, switches the turbo groove on without losing any of its melodic power, stretching the boundaries with a bass-heavy funky guitar-led monster that combines ecstatic pianos and a bassline keen to blow systems up. Recently road-tested in South Africa, this remix is testifying of the Franco-Italian duo’s new deeper, tribal mood. Next Hifi Sean provides one of his trademark housed-up dubs. Once the Soup Dragons’ lead singer and the toast of all Madchester-infused dancefloors with the smash ‘I’m Free’, Sean has reinvented himself as a purveyor of fine beats behind the decks and in the studio. Third is Pherotone AKA Eren Akkan, this Turkish young gun relocated in Barcelona has quickly made his mark as a slick producer looking beyond the nu-disco enclosure. Last but not least Maggie’s current project Mighty K offers a final reinterpretation that goes back to the original’s pop drama whilst adding modern twists.

As relevant today as it was 27 years ago – not least for its timeless lyrics, Continental would be hard pressed picking up a more fitting manifesto – Scarlet Fantastic ‘No Memory’ is back to life operating its magic again onto unsuspecting new generations.

Jerry Bouthier’s Continental records kicks off 2015 with the tentalizing  double-A side single ‘Imagine/Easy To Find’ from duo Bleu Toucan, the latest gem to break out of the French electronic scene.

Leo and Manu are Bleu Toucan. Leo lives in Pau in the south of France, Manu’s based in Paris, they are both in their mid twenties. It’s not even a year they’ve started to work together, yet the songs keep coming: breezy post-cards blessed by delicious melodies gathered from teenage diaries and worn out vinyls, Bleu Toucan’s songs are as personal as they are ambitious, light but never shallow, different yet familiar, and so addictive. 

If their debut single ‘Salade de Fruits’ EP, released last November on Profil de Face records (attracting praise from Les Inrockuptibles, France’s highbrow rock bible, and La.Ga.Sta, currently one of the most trusted music blogs out there) was the introductory set presenting Bleu Toucan’s gripping world, vaporous and seamless, chilled and nevertheless rhythmic. Their second single ‘Imagine/Easy To Find’ on Continental was gonna be the one that would introduce them to the dancefloor. 

First comes ‘Imagine’, a glorious break up song (?) sung in French, a moonlit face to face rocked by housey pianos and quite simply a modest jewel of emotive nostalgia. In the hands of Continental’s stalwarts Reflex, ‘Imagine’ morphs into an inventive dreamy escape that’s still driving. Lud and André’s sound is blossoming without losing any of its shimmering harmonies. 

The EP’s other A side ‘Easy To Find’, a mini carnival wrapped around yet another killer piano line and tingly vocals sung in English, is as melancholic and powerful as ‘Imagine’ despite the all around sensual Latin fever. To compliment the original, the club mix switches the hypnogroove on as if it’d been tailored by those hot shots in Norway… and you’re yet again in the streets of Rio pulling your best moves.

This is how pop music should sound in 2015: sexy and daring but never over-confident, sensitive and still funky, melodic without sounding fake. Feels like a big, genuine breath of fresh romantic air… then again what else to expect from talented French boys?

Here they’re at it again with ‘Fastlane’, a brand new addictive disco cut lifted straight outta NY’s Studio 54 and of COURSE led by Romuald’s golden voice and luxurious vocal arrangements (he performs all vocal parts).
In the original version, the pair gets a trusted seal of approval from featured Atlanta rapper Stanza and all falls into place for these two Frenchies forever enamored with America’s urban sounds.

On the remix tip, Continental’s own JBAG deliver the kind of makeover the radio-friendly original was crying out for (and a new bassline), just like back in the days of the Extended Mix. London-based funkerman Get To Know takes a dubbed out boogie path PEPPERED by freestyle guitars. To conclude the EP, France’s latest electronic girl/boy duo Rise & Fool opts for a sexy deep house dish with Gallic toping.

Here’s the second EP of ‘Fastlane’, one of the summer’s party starters courtesy of two pillars of the French scene Romuald & Madji’k AKA The Spimes (R.I.P.).

An unstoppable funky disco thumper in its original version, ‘Fastlane’ turns here into a widescreen FM ballad produced with close collaborator Bastian Belde. Then on the remix front, the ubiquitous Mighty Mouse strips things down tastefully without losing groove, nor punch. London’s White Heat resident Marcus Harris turns out a dubbed out re-interpretation nodding at the 80s’ discerning NYC dancefloors. Lastly Stuttgart’s Final DJs fuse classic house and pumping disco with savoir faire.

Jerry Bouthier’s label Continental records welcomes Mexico’s Bluehost to its continuously expanding international roster. Building a body of releases where love for songs with character and dancefloor principles cohabit on dj-friendly EPs crafted by authentic artists, the colorful, pop-tinged digital imprint springs back into action with ‘We Need You’ by Bluehost, a trio hailing from Mexico City which aims at combining indie moods and club vibes in one personal inspired Latin spell.

When DJ Alex González was introduced to Azzim Susano who was singing in a new-wave band at the time, the two 24 year olds into synth-pop and European sounds hit it off immediately and decided to form Bluehost. Cruz Antonio on drums soon completed the line-up. The band's name stems from its wish to combine the melancholy of Blue Monday, the third Monday of January believed to be the most depressing day of the year (almost certainly also a nod at New Order's electrodisco classic), to their love of hosting parties and making people dance.

With a funky rhythm guitar that would make Nile proud, quirky synths a-gogo, electro beats to almost breakdance to and a male vocal that’s as infectious as heartfelt to top the lot, ‘We Need You’ strikes a chord. These boys sure cultivate a sentiment of their own, injecting warm, impassioned, Hispanic touch and cool dance moves to their beloved indie-pop.

In the remix seat Pallace, the Frenchie who’s co-produced Zimmer's lately, opts for a driving house makeover, stripping down vocals and unleashing some proper feelgood Hammond chords and one of the catchiest SH101 basslines you’ll hear this summer. Next Sweden's Copycat, the analog lord renowned for revamping the 80s with style and skilled production techniques, turns out a piano-led balearic anthem that’ll have you throw your hands in the air before you know it. To conclude the EP, Bluehost provide their own dub remix which takes ‘We Need You’ one step closer to Manchester’s Haçienda and its italo-house heaven.

After last month’s detour by Mexico for the Bluehost EP ‘We Need You’, Jerry Bouthier’s London-based label Continental hops across the channel to hook up with Middle for the release of his stunning debut single ‘In Your Way’.

Located by the Mediterranean Montpellier, France’s 8th city twinned with Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona and Louisville USA, is famous for its huge student community and thriving nightlife. Part of the city’s bubbling electronic/dance scene 24 year-old Steve ‘Middle’ Stullgens is a talented musician who stands out from the lot for crafting… UK house. Surprisingly on the ball, fresh, innovative and damn funky, Middle’s compositions are not only unusual coming from a Frenchman, they’re also tastily groundbreaking not least for their musicality, inspired chord sequences and sonic dynamics.

A self-taught musician who started playing bass in punk bands at the age of twelve, Middle soon caught the programming bug and started to produce tunes in his bedroom, exploring genres until he eventually settled on house with a strong UK flavor a couple of years ago (“I love it cos it’s so groovy!”). After a string of free downloads which quickly attracted attention in Europe and as far as the US (his first track ‘Girl’ was snapped up by EDM.com and has clocked up 75,000 Soundcloud plays to date), Middle’s name’s soon getting bigger and bigger in the right circles, and deservedly so.

‘In Your Way’s no-nonsense original is a beautifully chiseled piece of futuristic house, both moving and griping at the same time, complete with euphoric peaks and enchanting melodic breakdowns (that vibraphone). Peppered by snippets of tweaked soulful vocals, synth chords and wooshes pulsate like heartbeats to the repetitive 4/4 injecting powerful tension to the dancefloor.

Remix-wise, Continental labelmates Reflex – coincidentally also From Montpellier – deliver a dreamy rewrite that’s still 4/4 but slower and sexier. Another local, DJ/producer Kaviar exercises his future beats magic and turn things around dramatically. Next Sergey Ledovskiy’s project Ledaux – a Russian based in San Francisco - takes the song into housey disco territory. To finish - other new French kid on the block - Aimeric Miriel AKA The Vein offers his own take on futuristic beats, soundtracky and vibey.

Pioneer of the Parisian electronic scene, long relocated to London, Jerry Bouthier joins passionately the dots between music and fashion. The resident dj of east London’s infamous and now defunct BoomBox night knows a good tune when he hears one as his Continental label’s output testifies. His celebrated dj mixes for Kitsuné, Emerald & Doreen and his own Heart & Soul series are captivating labours of love that have attracted followers the world over. His stylish upbeat dj sets, blending genres and everything else fancied by this iconoclast Frenchman, never fail to rock the party from one continent to another. 

Also a sound-designer for fashion, his post-modern soundtracks for Vivienne Westwood – seamlessly merging classical into world music, punk into cosmic disco and more - have become the stuff of legends. In the studio, he produces as JBAG - his baleariscopop project with Andrea Gorgerino - together they’ve released 4 singles (inc. tropical anthem ‘Mogadisco’) and remixed Two Door Cinema Club, RÜFÜS, Ladyhawke… however it’s now time for a new recording chapter.

Jerry explains why he’s never released a record under his own name before:
“I come from a band/group background and as long as I wasn’t producing tunes strictly on my own, it didn’t seem fair to the other musicians involved in the creative process with me. That’s why we started JBAG for instance, the contribution of my musical sidekick Andrea Gorgerino is huge, it wouldn’t have made sense to release our stuff as Jerry Bouthier…
With time I’ve acquired confidence and felt I could produce some decent DJ tunes on my own, the kind of funky, housey stuff I play in my sets, nothing as musical or song-led as JBAG – it wouldn’t be fun to do the same thing. The idea of delivering a series of DJ Tools soon came to me, you know simple yet effective tracks that work the dancefloor well without fuss…
So I locked myself in the studio with a pile of old vinyl and came up with ‘Yeah!’, my first attempt at going back to house basics, fusing the soulful vocals of yesterday’s NYC dancefloors to the more underground, bassline vibe of London.”

On the remix front Barcelona duo Mordisco, takes the deep house route with a sensual chugger that’ll work its wonders in the early hours. Next another duo, Tel Aviv’s B1ZB1Z, turns out a dreamy disco reinterpretation spiced-up by a zest of indie.

Originally from Melbourne, John Enston AKA JSquared is a talented dj/musician with a taste for all things groovy and a sharp ear for melody. After attending music College in Perth, John kicked off his recording career as a successful MC and beatmaker in the thriving Aussie hip-hop scene, writing and producing for major local artists, until he eventually switched to up-tempo party vibes after moving to Japan. 

A few years on, JSquared is making a name for himself churning out hot disco re-edits, yet there’s more to this Aussie dj than reworking other people’s recordings. As ‘RMB ME’ testifies he’s a fine songwriter/producer too. This latest collaboration with Japanese singer/musician/radio host Amy is a well thought out grower that addictively gets under your skin.

Expect scratchin’ and more… Next pushing the emotional threshold further is Pastel, a gifted London-based French Haitian who delivers a futuristic rewrite that’s oh so ‘17! Always reliable Ledaux a Russian producer relocated in San Francisco expertly fuses energy and sentiment. Lastly Stockholm’s FINAL DJs applies his own racey, pumping gloss to this delicious song.

Saturday night in Milan is Club Domani at internationally renowned institution Plastic. Its two resident djs, Andrea Ratti and Sergio Tavelli, have established a ‘party 'til you drop’ hardline with their brash and wild disco/house soundtrack celebrated in hedonistic fashion by the club’s drag-queens and flamboyant movers & shakers from across town and beyond, a lively, cross-generational fashion/music/art crowd of individuals and fantastico characters.

For their second single, the pair teamed up with French dj/producer Jerry Bouthier, fashion stalwart (Kitsuné, Vivienne Westwood, BoomBox…) and passionate Continental Records A&R . In the studio the three djs sealed a trusty friendship setting out to pay homage to seminal producer Bobby O whose trademark raw, camp synths gave a unique twist to electronic disco.

Dazzling actress/creature Cristina Bugatty, who runs an amusing YouTube channel and has dipped into reality tv, completed the picture delivering a manifesto glorifying the uniqueness in ‘each & everyone’ with classic lines borrowed to Vogueing cult flick ‘Paris Is Burning’ (“You can become anything and do anything, right here, right now and it won’t be questioned. We are not going to be shady, just fierce…”).

The result, ‘You Be’, is a timeless, man-machine disco thumper boasting a proud message loud: Whoever You Are, Be Yourself! Remix-wise, who better than respected house-heads Hard Ton getting their 303 out for a vintage, jackin’ re-rub?
