Releasing my debut album has been one of my most meaningful life-experiences, and apart from the times playing my livesets, I seem to never have found a right moment to share it personally with the world. Today it has been exactly one year since the release-date, so this should be a good moment.

"Kindred Phenomena marks Mattheis' debut album. After two cosmic EPs on Nous'klaer and a mini-album on tape for Ecstatic Recordings, he now returns to Nous'klaer for his first full story. An album shaped for every occasion: driving from the city to the island, dancing in the living room, or raving at sunset. On Kindred Phenomena Mattheis picks up where he left off: 'Swell' serves as another episode of the prisms, the modular synth excursion of 'Bit Fragments' pushes his arpeggiator solos a step further, and album standout 'Ben_M' provides his most beautiful dance of melodies yet. This Story is based on the theory of "Cosmological Constant", the representation of the energy density that arises in the Einsteins general relativity equation. Sound cannot travel in this vacuum, if it all it does, it only takes a leap. This law in our space time was used as an inspiration and the lower end of acid frequencies (sub bass ranging from 90khz to 250 khz) was used for my transitions due to its hollow nature, just like vacuum energy.

They initially collaborated in 2002, in New York City, as Soul Dynamics, a live electronic group including some of the city´s jazz musicians. The leap forward takes place in an electronic key with a refined and classy house style that blends genres to become even more seductive and  enveloping. After debuting in 2019 on Pablo Bolívar's label, Seven Villas, followed by an EP on Culprit and another on Hafendisko, with Ghost Clap EP reaping great reviews, they now introduce a new EP, Between Spaces, with it they take a step further into their sound.
The EP quickly captivates with its title track followed by Side Effect, where they demonstrate their skills with the machines; its eclectic, elegant, powerful and magnetic. It then closes with So Far, a beautiful collaboration with handpan musician Shirin, the song adds a magic touch to a duo that knows how to find subtle feelings and soul where other producers left it be. 
To do something great one must shred conventionalities, this is what Basic Need aims for with Between Spaces, and they do so by selecting the best of the past while toying with the present and propelling themselves into the future.
