Starting strong, ‘Audio Blueprint’ provides a fast and erratic baseline cushioned only by a deep, squelching synth. It’s a textural and delicately refined track, with each sound finding its perfect place with twisted effect.

Banoffee Pies Records, in its eighth year of operating, hit the 20th release milestone in their Original Series. The A side was produced in a special collaboration with local artist SHBL-LBSH who’s vocal works feature across “Kesibt” + “Fasla”. The B side delivers sharp cutting synth lines in “Mawkif” and breakneck low end rumbles in “Hanshoof”. After a series of works on the likes of Naive, Not For Profit and Rhythm Section, Hassan fittingly joins the Berlin based, Bristol born label with more boundless sounds that slice through the fabric of styles that BPR have fostered since inception. Over the last few years, we have got to know the Glasgow based duo General Ludd, bringing them to Asia back in 2016 and 2018. This will be their third record to come out on a Hong Kong based label, and will be their first full length LP to date. Eponymously titled, General Ludd, the 8 track record exemplifies their bold, unconventional approach to dance music production.

Like the club the label is born from, the music here is about imagination and catharsis in a brave new world. Though the album is full of clean and crisp sound design that excrete an aura of the digital era, General Ludd embody a rupture in the technological utopia. This is somehow still very much human music, music for the ecstatic moment, it invites the body to move freely and with abandon.  General Ludd build tracks that don’t always hinge on a bass line, the sub-bass frequencies are there but are part of a rich tapestry, woven into a fabric of synths and other-worldly samples and voices.

Perhaps distinct from some of their past work with labels Mr Saturday Night, Rubadub & Ostgut Ton, there is a certain coldness and sparseness in the construction of the music. As with all of the duo’s back catalogue, there is not one form, one fixed genre, the music is alive and constantly shifting. Maybe you can call it post-club dance music, because of the conventions being broken, but there are no deconstructive impulses. It’s not music to fulfil a category, it’s music for moving people in new methods, in the hips, the head and the heart.

The album comes with a re-interpretation of “Guld” by Laughing Ears, an electronic music artist who currently lives in Shanghai. Her music is a knack for blending otherworldly atmospherics with heavy bass-lines that explore space, melody and rhythm to create complex yet tranquil productions to get lost in.

Sparked by a fresh batch of demos Monotronique landing in the Livity Sound inbox, this EP is presented as an act of solidarity with the wider UA club community.

Born and raised Kharkiv, Ukraine, Monotronique aka Roman Kurhan made his first steps into electronic production in 2013 and has since released on and contributed to labels such as Opal Tapes, Banoffee Pies and Hyperboloid Records.

As a DJ he is known on the Kharkiv club scene making regular appearances at clubs such as Zhivot, where he is a resident, spinning his eclectic selections with a focus on underground house, techno and bass leaning dance music.

Returning after a 2 year hiatus, London label GlassTalk return with Spin Cycle EP, coming courtesy of emerging South London producer, @djcoefroms11 (Coe) (aka George Whitehead). The follow up to his acclaimed debut release Radial on Dublin's Woozy label last year, Coe now lands on GlassTalk with 3 brand new tracks, alongside a remix from 3024/Version affiliate @yaksound (Yak). Chopped snappy vox and snips of laughter sit over a volley of bouncy kick and sludgy bass tremors - this is futuristic, cheeky, tripped out electro, prime for a full club meltdown.

The full EP, is a showcase of Coe's affinity for mutant bass explorations, kinetic club sounds and intricate percussion, informed by his first love, Dubstep. Super Natural creeps along at a slower roll with acidic menace, while TORE, a nasty techno dancehall lurker that twitches near to a rinse-out peak, only to restrain itself with patient Half-Time tension. Spin Cycle also features a remix from UK based artist Yak (DJ Mag's 'Breakthrough Producer', 2019). His Super Natural refix surprises those familiar with his previous work, opting for a full DnB breakage session with modern flair. It's a glorious end to another killer release in Coe's small but impressive canon of forward thinking club music.

GLASS005 - Coe - Spin Cycle EP (Previews)

Grid Records turns one. A widely welcomed addition to the scene turning out consistent releases that have landed in the bags of Ben UFO, re:ni and Giant Swan.

The French mainstay is headed up by Gautier Scaringella, aka Clad which places an emphasis on forward-thinking artists from all over the world, showcasing artists such as Kevin Murf, Christian Coiffure, Reality Check & E-Unity. Clad's eagle eye comes into the fray by uncovering superb artists such as Doline and Ltd Colours, each with their own debut EP on the French imprint.

The label has gone from strength to strength over the past twelve months, showcasing how diverse the palette of this label is becoming. From the polyrhythmic techno of qwqwqwqwa to the intricate sound design and ambient soundscapes of Kincaid. Clad has set the foundations for a superb imprint that is set to stay for a long time.

Their one-year compilation celebrates heavy-hitters such as Henzo, Sputnik One & Tristan Arp and then flipping it to the more intricate sounds from K Wata & Mistareez.

Grid has really come together with an all-star lineup for this record, a beautiful demonstration of an exciting beginning.

Prolific producer Dawn Razor, conjures up a deft, future-focused EP that paints a rich landscape of exciting sounds that push the boundaries of electronic music in a myriad of new directions. Featuring three explosive cuts and one hot to the touch remix from flourishing Bristol-based artist, Yushh, ‘Scary Movies’ is a deeply evocative EP that displays the versatile and accomplished skills of both producer and remixer alike.

EP opener ‘Scary Movies’, is a wickedly euphoric slice of driving techno that rushes the bassbins and dials up the serotonin levels to the max. A true mutant roller that’s guaranteed to drain the smoke machine dry. Following that is ‘Getting’ a snarling and unpredictable masterclass that traverses through jagged techno and twisted breaks. A proper hard working number, loaded with attitude and built specifically for all night sessions.  

‘Esvedra’ kicks off the B-side and keeps things moving at a blistering pace. A laser-focussed club cut that is guaranteed to run amok through every space it graces. A razor sharp face melter stacked with hammering percussion and lethal drum work. Rounding off the release is Yushh’s brooding and expertly restructured remix of ‘Getting’. A heady cocktail of UK Bass in its most sinister form and a heavy dose of the more off-kilter and forward-thinking sounds coming out of not just Bristol but the UK as a whole. This is proper lights down and sound system up material at its finest. 

‘Scary Movies’ unequivocally displays Dawn Razor’s skills as an increasingly confident producer and one of the most important artists emerging out of the Russian scene. While simultaneously showcasing Yushh’s inherent ability to think well outside of the box each and every time.
