Over the last five years LA-based imprint Culprit have positioned themselves at the tip of city’s burgeoning house and techno scene. Starting out as a promoter/DJ outfit, the label’s output has continuously shunned the city’s aesthetic tropes of tangerine sunsets and palm trees. Labelheads Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe, collectively known as Droog, have always sought to explore the darker elements of Los Angeles, and that has resulted in Culprit being considered the imprint in the city for underground heads weary of that standard 110bpm poolside flex.

This time around Droog has teamed up with Nottingham tech-house merchant Inxec and shipped ‘Better Company’, a sinister house weapon with nasty vocal bites and an ominous bass snarl lingering underneath, and it’s available for free download here: http://mixmag.net/music/exclusive-music/download-droog--inxec

L'Orange's Haunting vocal sample and stutter step drums prod UltraMan to contemplate just how he feels - luckily Kool Keith has no shortage of descriptors.  Sometimes Keith feels happy to stuff the ball in the basket and get two points; sometimes Keith feels rap is his puppet on strings; sometimes he's mostly jolly chillin' on the couch to poli.  The marriage of L'Orange's left of center heroine nod, prohibition era sampling, noirscape production with Kool Keith's legendary Ultramagnetic founding, creator of Billy Miligan split personality sci-fi rap - aka Dr. Octagon, aka Black Elvis, aka Dr. DOOM, aka Tashawn Dorsett, aka Crazy Lou, aka Poppa Large, aka, Keith Korg, aka Mr. Gerbik, or just plain Mr. Thronton to some, is just plain as blissful as Kanye & Kim on a motorcycle riding through the grand canyon.  The point is, let your mind wander while you listen to this new gem from L'Orange & Kool Keith.

TEKLIFE have once again linked arms with LA based marauders TAR for the fifth installment of an ongoing collaboration. Continuing in the same vain as those prior entries from the likes of DJ Manny, DJ Earl and DJ Taye, volume five comes gift-wrapped by TEKLIFE sensei, Traxman. As one of TEKLIFE's chief keyholders, Corky "Traxman" Strong's beatwork has provided a neat blueprint for versatility within the Chicago footwork sound.

"Thay Act Like Thay Don't No" is empirical evidence of just that, combining neckbreak snare snaps with bubbly undertones and commanding vocal stabs. "Da Rebel" and " Dilla" complete the triumvirate of tunes on the release which arrives on February 24th.
