Organized by Melifera since 2016, La Vallée Électrique festival is an event that unites a vibrant community around electrifying music and visual installations. This utopian haven is a creative space based on three concepts: human beings, nature, and technology

“Going down into the valley, everything fell into place. How the audio bounced around the trees, and the visitors almost blended into the nature around them. Playing this set in the morning, just as the sun was rising above the nearby mountains, and the inhabitants of the valley was waking up, was an absolute treat.”

La Vallée Électrique 2023 • Martinou

“Flight mode is the greatest” — the single sentence which makes up @bella-boo 's online biography. Perhaps flight mode is what one switches to when listening to her Stora Skuggan-mix; it certainly takes you off-route from the dance floor into something like a gleaming, two-hour-long fuzzy dream… Bella also really flies up and down, in and out of settings and modes; suddenly you are transported out of the haze, on the beach in Maui; knee-deep in warm sand and on a looney footwork journey. This mix expresses Bella Boo’s very own soft kind of ambient-style, full of floating r&b-vibes. Instead of cold crunchy minimalism, it projects warmth and sunshine, diving in and out of fluffy, pastel-coloured marshmallow-clouds. Maybe this mix encapsulates what the kids mean when they say “rolling into summer like”?!

The cohesive array of depth charged devices that Anthony Linell has produced is formidable. From his opening statements as Abdulla Rashim on his early label of the same name, right through to his recent work that puts his aliases aside, there is a robust and rigorous intent that compounds the elemental strategies of techno's models to apprehend his singular vision.

Presiding over Stockholm's Northern Electronics label with Varg (Jonas Rönnberg), Linell dispenses with mechanisms of attention on all fronts. Marked by an indefatigable self-reliance, the label presents exactly what it means to display, and no more. Carving an idiosyncratic platform for his music is as great of a warning as there could be that Linell's leveraging little toward the benefit of the audience. By his measure, the familiarity and comfort of contemporary techno is stripped back to its rushing heart, the senses left tailgating the strobe in a fit of intuition over decision. The greater this is exposed the colder it gets, and its in these extremes that Linell's caustic rhythmic precision hits. Live, it comes off as a galvanizing strike from the outside; analysing the room as a DJ, it's a case of being pursued through the dark. 

Just as the brevity of Linell's output in the eyes of techno is exalted as it is brought into focus, the background to this blurs as you start to decipher his other projects. Lundin Oil skirts the fringes of noise and experimental music, and in collaboration with Varg as Ulwhednar, this is perhaps even more pronounced.

Purposively ricocheting between the techno world and experimental electronic music, Linell forges a distinct passage that gathers the aesthetically uncompromising motifs and missions from across this spectrum. It's this combination and resolve that's brought Linell to the world's attention, however little that attention has been solicited.

The night went on and on, lost in a fog watching as the flickering and flashing lights moved in the distance. He was sat by the riverside looking back on the city as it buzzed and whizzed as if it were some strange organism with its own life source.

It was endless, the throb and movement of people and things, weaving between concrete structures with their own agendas and priorities. At least so they thought.

Soon it would be daylight and a new warmth would wash away the sins of the evening, for now they were messy and lost within the haze.

Genius of Time are set to release a new EP paying homage to their take on a 'big room' sound and the 'tropes' of dance music. They do so in their own exquisite style with intricate production and subtle nods to that which have come before.
