Exclusive remix of What To Do, one of Guy Gerber's finesse tracks.
Statecoral adopted the original percussion which set the rhythmic configuration of the original, and added layers of melody in D#maj, the key of the original, including a modular played bass, and other eccentric synth lush melodie sequences. The vocal from the original is processed and panned to the sides. Some samples from the original melody were kept and fade tilted between the newly written lines. For the rhythm section, a breaks part for a lush chorus was written as well as subtle pearl drums snare kick and toms.

Art of remix is a project I undertaken this year, focusing on bringing new life to iconic records from the 80s. Remixing, rearranging, and recomposing them according to concept. This round, I imagined David Bowie with three synth heads and a drum machine. Used the D-50, Ob-x, and moog grandmother synth, using custom presets, to back up Bowie, playing the original chords from 'Let's Dance': Bbm7 Bbm6 Bb4/7 and F#6 chords and extracting melodies with intervals of 7, 3 ,2, and 1 + utilizing Roland 727 drum machine to yield the outcome.

Another state of the arts remix. This time the subject is talk talk. 80s band with highly elaborate musical style. The band broke through and stood out among their contemporaries. They allegedly inspired Radiohead and many others, like myself. This remake goes as a tribute.

2 full days of learning all original riffs.
2 days of recording and sketching.
1 day for post production and mixing/mastering.
Working with deadlines. Sometimes the process is so ripe, I can learn original riffs sketch record mix and master in one day, although not recommended;)

Articulated the space in the recording.
And the time in the post production.

13 tracks in total are in the value of this composition, of which five channels are drums, one channel is guitar, five synth lines, 1 bass channel, and one vocal line.

Storytelling is at the heart of this remix. Rewriting the concept of the original lyric was forethought in preproduction. The other main concept that preluded this remix was key modulation. I hence wrote chord progressions, and melodic phrases in the original key of the song Emaj and then wrote a secondary parallel modulation progressions and phrases into Emin then back to Emaj before doing a final pivot modulation into a progressions and phrases in F#maj, in the final chorus. Breakbeat style rhythm was most fit for this record and was first noticed when listening to the original which contained a one bar chop of breakbeat. The realization created a natural follow up that was well suited. The rhythm, harmonies, bass, and vocal should come together to give the listener a journey of the process of conception! Main instruments used for harmony are string synth, vocal synth, and clavi keys presets from the Roland Integra module I own. Added harmonies were conceived with the Jazz Harp module by Samples from Mars. Also used was the new feature in Vocal Colors by Native instruments to conduct a re-pitch to the original vocals. The drums were programmed via drum rack + added percussion from Roland Integra and TR8S. The bass was performed with a Nord c2 keyboard and harmonized with an Ob-X. Much of magic sparked in the post production, processing, arranging, and final mix down. The main samples used from the original are vocals, vox samples, snare rolls, and synth stabs. Mixed & Mastered with UAD Plugins and SPL Rack modules. In joy.

The second issue of a remix of Talk Talk, the 80s pop rock band that left trails of beauty with their notes and perfectly unperfect measures. I chop only the vocal from the original multitrack, use an acoustic guitar for chords, lead, and harmony, an electric guitar for bridge, covered the original bassline but with slight variation of swing and phunk iteration, groove sections were programmed and assembled to add right measures of swing. OB-x synth was used for lead and bridge. After learning the few original minimal riffs from the songs, decided to take it for an authentic spin. A remake.

Minimal House remix of Burna Boy's hit Last Last to ember some fire to your Heart floor. This is the first exclusive unofficial remix of Last Last by Burna Boy. Remixing Burna is a pain yet the fun had eventually yielded results. Had to use unorthodox techniques to blend his vocal with the multi tracks recorded, which I won't mention here. Electric Guitar verses were written and played by Charlie Dronkers. All other instruments written and performed by Statecoral.
