As a life-student of music appreciation, I got to thinking how the most contemporary of all music genres, hip-hop and rap, got started. Most people would start to say that they were derived from R/B, funk and sould music. But my research shows that the roots go deeper into music history. So, I present to you a collection of tracks (on these next two mixes) that will give you a little history of the evolution of music, from Classical to Jazz and Blues, to the classical jazz of the 1900s to the 1930s, to R/B, Soul, Funk and finally funk jazz, Hip Hop and Rap.

By no means a rap retrospective, and by no means a hip hop retrospective, this is evolution of music. At least, in a form that is coherent and listenable.
