The piece conveys a sense of optimism and energy, drawing stylistic parallels to the lighter piano miniatures of the Romantic and early Impressionist traditions, such as those of Schumann and Debussy. Its elegant interplay of motif and variation creates an engaging musical narrative well-suited to its title. The principal motif, C–E♭–D–B, is introduced in a rapid, luminous character and later appears in inversion, reinforcing its structural and thematic significance. This song is played throughout Miyazaki’s film “Howl’s Moving Castle.” It reminds me of song that would be played in a ballroom.

This song is likely the most melancholy one I know how to play. It represents sadness, emptiness, and loss. Nevertheless, it is quite a beautiful piece that is played in the film “Spirited Away.”
