Back to the cover material again, here we have another take of mine on the legendary band Thompson Twins. This was next to the last album released on Warner Bros...Big Trash...in 1989. It got mixed reviews in the press, but personally I thought it held up well and stood it's ground. Doing the research I found it was done entirely on the Fairlight CMI (but I think some Synclavier is involved...HAS to be!). With all due respect, I went through my library, using sounds from the Emulator and Fairlight. Only ONE loop is present...the agogo/cowbell that plays throughout...everything else is multitracked by myself. I used two sessions....one consisting of 32 separate tracks for the music, and another session consisting of 12 tracks for vocals/additional instrumentation. Sooo, I can see how a 48 channel console comes in handy back in the day! Enjoy. I toyed with formants to achieve all of Alannah Currie's vocals in the harmonies. All instrumentation and vocals are myself with the exception of the loop. Enough geek talk. Play the damn thing.... -C.

SUGAR DADDY (Thompson Twins' Cover)-Corey Stuart

I recorded this last year, but haven't really shared with many people. My version of CMB's hit song "I Wanna Sex You Up" goes over extraordinarily well at most karaoke events. I didn't use auto tune, either. Rather I tried to sing it the way it was intended to be delivered. The backing vocals are mine as well. They were a rightful task to try to duplicate. Bangin' In The Bathroom (Clean Radio Edit) - Corey Stuart

(**NOTE: UPDATED TRACK, after a few suggestions. I beefed up the vocals and layered a few takes on top of it to give it a more aggressive sound) This is my version/cover of Journey's 1983 hit "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)". I'm still working on this, and I'm not completely sold on how straightforward it plays out. I want to chop it up some more, and I'm considering getting a talented female singer to join me in turning this into a duet. SEPARATE WAYS (2014 remix) - Corey Stuart

This is a new dubstep track I've been playing with. I used likely a gazillion layers of Massive to get the right sounds, then I chopped them up and made them go where I wanted em'. The vocal bits you'll here are of my late Uncle Archie and Granny. As a child, I was obsessed with sampling--capturing their unique voices and playing it back as percussive or melodic elements in the music I made. This song is somewhat my homage to them…their funny character, their tolerance of my hellbent on getting the "right moment" on tape all those years ago. Btw, the recording is from a candid 1986 taping…I still have it, unedited in it's entirety, on MP3 today! ;) Enjoy….-C.

GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE - Corey Stuart

It was 1986, and I remember Level 42 hitting the radio stations with their first single, "Something About You." What I've attempted to do with this cover, is pretty much keep it the same, but it's slightly faster than the original, maybe even a bit cleaner and tighter in the process. Everything was played and multi tracked live into Logic Pro X (NO SAMPLES), and I sang most of the vocals in a separate session. The high pitched chorus that Mike Lindup sang after the verses were particularly challenging. I wound up singing them in a natural low octave voice, then processing the pitch 12 steps up, modifying the formant so the end result didn't sound like a chipmunk. :) I'm somewhat happy…enjoy. -C. www.coreystuart.com HEY!!! SOMETHING ABOUT YOU (Level 42 Cover)-Corey Stuart

Ok, before you folks know what's up…I'm definitely tweeting the link to Mr George himself to let him know what I've been up to with his classic hit. I'm a tad scared because I know he's one tough man to impress. I passed my infamous Swarovski encrusted Yankee hat to a backstage hand to give to him as a gift at his Irving Plaza concert several months ago---never heard back--so I KNOW he's a tough one to impress….. Soooo…$450 worth of rhinestones, labor of love, and an iconic team hat later….here I am covering the man himself. On a side note, I've personally preferred "Miss Me Blind" over "Karma" but EVERYONE knows this tune, so I went with the popular vote. For this cover, I kept true to the original, except I sped the arrangement up considerably so that it could be mixed in with something 128BPM. I layered more guitar on the bridge bits that segue into the hook of the song. There's also no auto tune; I'm trying to steer away from that as much as I used to use it considerably in the past. DONT WANNA GO HOME (The Corey Stuart Remix)-Jason Derulo

This is my take on the Australian pop band Real Life's "Send Me An Angel." The song was released twice in the 1980's, with the version from 89' being the one that hooked me on this incredible tune. In 2004 I began covering this song in my own personal live shows as a one man band. I cannot begin to tell you how incredible the response was, and to date, I can't say that I've ever been truly sold on any studio rendition I've attempted of it since. Until now. This is the version I'll be taking with me on my new live show in 2015, and you'll hear it in it's splendid glory here. The main synth riffs come off my Triton and MS2000--both instruments were used in the original cover I did back in 2004, as well as the (badly distorted) cover that's floating about on youtube from 2008. This is a sign of things to come, everyone. What we have here is a nice lil remix of my single, "Dreamer." The original came off my 2006 inaugural album by the same title, so if you have the CD, you'll instantly recognize the melody and lyrics. I've chosen to remix this song because in less than a month, I'll be going live, full electronic show with synthesizer and laptop, for the first time since 2004. Dreamer (2015 remix) - Corey Stuart

Howdy folks--haven't posted in a good while. I wrote this track in the mid 90s, just as I had been introduced to working in a real studio. I had this song written called "Rear View Mirror," and it was laden with sooooo many samples, mostly processed, but because it was so sample heavy from many other artists, I didn't know where to even begin securing the rights needed to get this Frankenstein of a song out on the market for sale. However, the beat from the R70 stands out, especially on the deep 808 kicks, and I intend on recreating this in the upcoming months. I think the song is commercially a gimmick, but rediscovering it the other week on an unmarked gold CDR in my archives has opened the prospects of doing something new with this rare gem. The cassette tape it was originally on is long gone, but fortunately I recorded it (archaically at that) in the mid 90's when I had to hook the CD burner up to the computer. You will hear the unedited audio, complete with its drop outs and all. It's just too funky NOT to share. Enjoy. -C.

I must admit as much as I love the original song, I can't seem to get used to the remix. Even though it's one I've done myself. I was shooting for an Eric Prydz style version, and I tinkered with this idea 5 years ago--but it never came to realization until now. Maybe you'll hear something in this I didn't, but nonetheless, before I wind up shelving it....I thought I would throw it out to you guys and see what YOU think. Enjoy....C.

PHOTOGRAPH (The Corey Stuart Remix)-Def Leppard

I've always loved the original version of this song.  I can remember being enthralled at the robots that were used in the video...and that this man had a sound that was well ahead of his time. So I set out to create an anthem of sorts, something that would make you wanna jump up and down to. I took the highly recognisable synth riff that everyone identifies this with out, and instead made the hook the scratching which Grandmaster DST dropped in the track. I hope you guys enjoy it too. ROCKIT 2012 (The Corey Stuart Remix)-Herbie Hancock

SugarDaddy is the new alias for Groove Armada's Tom Findlay, with Tim Hutton on vocals. I heard this acapella over the weekend and have always liked the original song by Ace (Paul Carrack) which came out in the 70's. Safe to say it's a wonderful time to do up a nice progressive house remix of this tune. On a side note, I didn't even hear the original cover that this acapella was featured on, but it's my assumption it was a chill track at 115bpm. I cranked it up to 128bpm, and gave it an entirely different arrangement.

I redid this song over the weekend and hopefully my vocals are up to par with what I had intended to do the first time around. Yes, this is another 80's cover. One of the best Twins' tracks ever to have graced the 80's (apart from "Love On Your Side"). This one came off the "Into The Gap" LP--1984 to be exact. Hope you enjoy this.
