In 2023 the Faith Communities Today (FACT) group surveyed the congregations of dozens of denominations in the United States, including the Bahá’í Faith, about how well religious communities and congregations adapted to and survived the COVID-19 pandemic. A random sample of Bahá’í Local Spiritual Assembly secretaries received the survey and 54% responded. Questions were asked about online versus virtual Feasts, Ruhi classes, youth education and devotionals; the changing use of technology in the face of the pandemic (Zoom or Facebook meetings, etc.); changing finances during the pandemic; and the changing level of conflict among community members. Results show that while the average Bahá’í community saw a slight decline in online Feast attendance during the pandemic, most communities saw an increase in Ruhi and children’s class attendance, and an increase in community volunteering (in opposition to the average church in the US). Since it was first published around twenty-five years ago, many English-speaking Baháʼís have enjoyed reading Maḥmúd’s Diary, a translated account of ʻAbdu’l-Bahá’s journey throughout the United States from April to December 1912. What is not well known in the West, however, is that the chronicler of this account, Mírzá Maḥmúd Zarqání, wrote a sequel that mainly covers ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s subsequent travels in England, Scotland, France, Germany, Hungary, and Austria from December 1912 to June 1913, and concludes with glimpses from His return to the East, with ‘Abdu’l-Bahá sojourning initially in Egypt for several months before finally arriving in the Holy Land in December 1913, where He would remain for the rest of His life. A little more than a hundred years after its original publication in Persian, this second volume has just been made available in English translation under the title ʻAbdu’l-Bahá in Europe, 1912–1913. The value of this book lies not only in its reverent depiction of ʻAbdu’l-Bahá’s exemplary conduct as He interacted with people from all walks of life and holders of various ranks (including a Nobel laureate), but also in its transcripts of more than two hundred of His oral remarks, among them many formal talks and other addresses. The book additionally features a handful of Tablets He wrote during this period. In this presentation given by the book’s translator, we will go through a number of highlights from every stage of this vividly recorded journey, accompanied visually by images of people ʻAbdu’l-Bahá met with and places He traveled to. Through the lens of this second volume of a chronicle that the Universal House of Justice has called “a reliable account of ʻAbdu’l-Bahá’s travels in the West and an authentic record of His utterances,” we stand to gain a richer perspective on ʻAbdu’l-Bahá’s second journey to Europe and the timeless lessons He taught there.

The Reception of 'Abdu'l-Bahá in Britain : East Comes West looks at the travels of 'Abdul-Bahá in Britain from the perspective of some of the significant figures who received Him and facilitated His public programme. The book explores a contemporary vibrant discourse around religions that welcomed 'Abdu'l-Bahá's participation, along with other notable religious figures from the 'east'. The argument is made that there are discrete aspects to the Masters reception in Britain--a reception unique in its range of engagements, publicity and, arguably, influence--which make this study especially worthwhile . . .

When Baha’is have presented what they call “the Baha’i principles”, they often give a short summary of three – the unity of God, the unity of religion and the unity of humanity.  The webinar will examine the unity of religion citing the words of Baha’u’llah, ‘Abdu’l-Baha and Shoghi Effendi, and will suggest some possibilities for interfaith dialogue related to this principle. It will include references to the essential (perennial) teachings of religion, the secondary (dispensational) teachings of religion, the false dogmas which obscure the original teachings of the Manifestations of God, and responses to claims to doctrinal exclusivism and revelational finality. Ideas presented by Christopher Buck, Soheil Bushru’i, Jena Khodadad, Liz Monteiro, John Randall, and Lyon Virostko will also be considered.

Within every story, there is usually both an element of truth and an element of distortion. This may occur for various reasons, such as misunderstandings, misrepresentations, or misconceptions; faulty memory by the storyteller and/or the receiver of the information; lack of access to primary sources; and others. Known as the “outstanding benefactress of the Faith”, there was much more to “Milly” Collins than what some stories portray about her. This presentation aims to delineate a dialectical discourse regarding some distortions about this beloved, outstanding, and high-ranking Bahá’í woman. It will examine seven conceptions, some recorded, and some presumed.
