Performance of the Gregorian Salve Regina coupled with Josquin DesPres's cantus firmus motet in my own performance edition. 

The motet is a marvel of musical craftsmanship: not only does it utilize the Gregorian chant in its entirety in the Alto voice, but its structure is a strict double canon throughout: Soprano/Alto sing one strict canon; Tenor/Bass sing a different strict canon. Performed by Voces Novae et Antiquae under my direction May 16, 2004, in Philadelphia, PA.

The *Salve Regina,* also known as the "Hail Holy Queen," is a Marian hymn and one of four Marian antiphons sung at different seasons within the Christian liturgical calendar of the Roman Catholic Church. The *Salve Regina* is traditionally sung at Compline in the time from the Saturday before Trinity Sunday until the Friday before the first Sunday of Advent. "Hail Holy Queen" is also the final prayer of the Rosary.

The work was composed during the Middle Ages by German monk Hermann of Reichenau and originally appeared in Latin, the prevalent language of Western Christianity until modern times.

This very beautiful 'Ave Maria' is less well-known and
commonly attributed to the wonderful Baroque composer Giulio Caccini (1551--1618). (highly doubtful)

"Ave Maria" is a popular and much recorded aria composed by Vladimir Vavilov around 1970. It is a musical hoax generally misattributed to Baroque composer Giulio Caccini. Vavilov himself published and recorded it on the Melodiya label with the ascription to "Anonymous" in 1972. It is believed that the work received its ascription to Giulio Caccini after Vavilov's death, by an organist Mark Shakhin (one of its performers on the mentioned "Melodiya" longplay), who gave the "newly discovered scores" to other musicians; then in an arrangement made by the organist Oleg Yanchenko for the recording by Irina Arkhipova in 1987; then the piece came to be famous worldwide

De muziek van Arvo Pärt heeft sinds de oprichting van Kwintessens- nu vijf jaar geleden- een
grote rol gespeeld in de ontwikkeling van het koor. Dat deze componist op 11 september 2010
zijn 75e verjaardag vierde, was voor ons een reden om op die datum ons eerste concert
te plannen met uitsluitend muziek van Arvo Pärt.
Pärts muziek is van een prachtige eenvoud. Door 'ongeoefende' oren gewaardeerd en door 
muziekkenners gekarakteriseerd als muzikale ijssculpturen van een haast pijnlijke schoonheid.
