Seeking Angels

PREMIERE : Kalipo - Seeking Angels (Iptamenos Discos)

Sometimes, the World Wide Web is beautiful, isn’t it? Today’s premiere is a good example: The Ukrainian label POVILNO, for its forthcoming release, opened the doors for another parcel of the fruitful partnership between Barcelona-based Mexican virtuoso Ludviq (SXDNS413) and Vienna’s superstar Nick Hanzo (SXDNS065). Something that would not be possible without the miracle of the doomed but still useful Internet.

According to the history books, everything started in 2021 when Nick revisioned Ludviq’s “Saltu Capsicum” for his first EP on NEIN Records. Since then, their paths have already crossed each other a few other times resulting in well-received remixes or collaborations published either on their very own imprints (Hanzo’s Belly Dance Services and Ludviq’s Bonkers) or other platforms such as Melomana and Quixotical.

For their debut on POVILNO, the lads came up with a couple of “thought-bending and dance-floor-ready originals” and invited none other than Lebollet (RASTROLIVE004) and Leonor (SXDNS034) for the remix duties.

Premiered here, "Ace of Pentacles" develops its magic by showing off an imperative bassline topped with a complex concoction of percussive elements and sharp FX shots. The oscillating synth layer triggers a mesmerising break during the drop just to be abruptly interrupted when all the hysteria of the aforementioned mixture starts over. That’s the title track, a “catchy exploration through deep basslines, intricate rhythms, and cosmic syncopation.”

At last the 1/3rds of Run Stop Restore have finally gotten it together and founded a new label.... simply put, Items &amp; Things.

The first release "SPACESHIPS &amp; PINGS" contains four summer hits all wrapped up nicely in one convenient E.P. With tracks from Magda, Marc Houle, Troy Pierce and their good friend Konrad Black Items &amp; Things 01 is poised to leave a big impression.

Konrad starts things off with "Coma Couch Surfing" a spacey disco number full of dreamy melodies and a sick bassline that will keep sunny terraces screaming for more. Magda's "Black Leather Wonder" is a stuttered electro-ish number full of spooky atmosphere and an ominous acid line that skips through the shadows of this sexy track in a way only Magda could come up with.

On the flip, "Kicker" from Marc Houle is a steady bleeping good time in true Houle fashion, building and building until the bass drops and presents a crazy melody sends the track over the edge, in a very good way. And finally, "The Day After Yesterday" a trippy vocal excursion into the mind of an obsessed stalker courtesy of Troy Pierce and minimal crooner Gibby Miller. Hinting at old-school Chicago house but with a very new school twist. Gibby says it best, "I think that i'm in deep....."
