“Specular” is one of the most electronic-sounding tracks on Traces, with Sheehan and Liberman weaving immersive synth textures around Arli’s rhythmic guitar ideas. The track’s central five-note Hydrasynth hook became the anchor for its evolving layers of sound. True to the duo’s organic approach, every element was created with outboard gear in the studio - even the kick drum was sculpted with guitar pedals. Additional contributions from Ed Zuccollo (Zuke) on synths and Riki Gooch on percussion added further depth to its spacious, tactile atmosphere.
