03 Sol Monk - Catch Your Tears Feat. Jarvis

"The album was recorded in 3 consecutive days in which we just jammed - hence the name of the album - JAM - and was the initiative of Harake - a project of Kol HaCampus 106fm radio.

The general idea was to get into the studio, without any songs in advance, and jam using our equipment and some extra instruments to create a live album.

The result is a collection of intuitive tracks all made on the spot, very different from the trio's usual work process - in layers and over time.

Thanks to this process, the tracks got a dynamic living character that compliments the electronic format, giving the album its unique colour.

The sessions got an unexpected twist due to the November 2012 bombings in Israel/Palestine. Alarms that set off at peak moments got us all into a very specific zone which gave birth to some of the songs - Master Of Rockets, I Cried, What Is Madness are among its' children.

Veil of the Universe is the new single by Nightsorrow, a sonic journey where dream pop, shoegaze, and ethereal wave intertwine to create a luminous yet melancholic atmosphere.

With whispered vocals that float like another instrument, the track unfolds through layers of guitars and infinite reverbs, evoking both the immensity of the cosmos and the fragility of the human spirit. It captures the duality of distant beauty: comfort and loss, light and shadow.

Inspired by the tradition of Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, and Beach House, Nightsorrow delivers a piece that doesn’t seek answers, but instead invites the listener into a state of dreamy introspection.

Blast Off Through the Wicker documents Art Feynman looking for life in the lifeless, questioning what it means to be living.  There is a calm, disciplined pocket to be felt in everything Feynman does; krautrock slink, staccato bounce, and pentatonic bursts of Nigerian Highlife fuzz pour on the temporal canvas with unquestionable ease, never falling in the wrong place. Even more admirable is, that his “canvas” is a four-track tape recorder, and that Blast Off features no loops or drum machines despite its aesthetically faithful motorik and afrobeat underpinnings.  Nowhere is this fact more surprising than on album standout “Slow Down” which pulses along infectiously with a crunchy backbeat, and deftly arpeggiating bass lines that are so locked-in that it would be hard to fault an unknowing ear for assuming the whole thing is tediously programmed.

There are gentler sides to Blast Off that conjure the spacey tenderness of Arthur Russell inventively and respectfully, without adopting their muse’s palette wholesale. In this regard Blast Off is an endearing collection of songs that capture the ear with warm-yet-clear cassette aesthetics and spot-on musicianship, both of which form an angle that points lovingly to Feynman’s deep and varied influences. Make no mistake-- this one truly is alive.

As a label guided by the mission of sharing the lesser heard sounds of Brazil with the world, Far Out Recordings are delighted to present the first official vinyl reissue of Edu Passeto & Gui Tavares’ Noite Que Brincou De Lua: a super rare and largely unheard masterwork of MPB, originally released in 1981. Disciples of the Clube Da Esquina movement, pioneered by Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges, Edu & Gui mixed psychedelic folk, jazz, bossa, and rock for an album of soulful, dreamy Brazilian pop, with stunning arrangements and lush vocal harmonies.

Having first met performing on the music festival circuits of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, it wasn’t long before Edu and Gui struck up a thriving song writing partnership and close friendship, united not only by the love of music, but by shared ideals of liberation and greater equality for humankind. The duo’s motivation stemmed from a desire for social and political change, during what turned out to be the final years of the Brazilian military dictatorship.

Prior to recording, Edu and Gui had to tread carefully with their lyrics, which had to be submitted to the federal censorship authorities before release. Their first application was rejected after the lyrics were deemed to contain too much direct social criticism. ‘Profome’ (translated “Pro-hunger”), a song characteristically bittersweet in tone, was initially a matter of fact portrayal of the desperately poor social conditions many people in Brazil faced at the time. Back to the drawing board, Edu and Gui, like many persecuted artists from this era had to refine their lyrics to convey their message more subtly.

It took the best part of a year to complete the album, with Edu and Gui saving every scent they could spare from gigging and hitchhiking the 100km to each session from their home in Campinas, so that they’d have enough money to pay for studio time in Abertura Studios, São Paulo.

Although the album gained a respectable amount of radio play in the years that followed, it’s remained in relative obscurity, despite its spellbinding qualities, evident on tracks like ‘Sabiá na Palmeira’, a sweet Brazilian rare-groove with shades of Leroy Hutson, and the psych-folk tinged ‘Seguir’, which harks to the dreamiest moments of Milton Nascimento and Marcos Valle.

Edu and Gui called time on their musical partnership in 1986 when Gui moved to Rio De Janeiro, but they remained close friends until Edu sadly passed away in 2008 after a series of health complications. There is a street named after him in his home city of Campinas, São Paulo. Today, Gui Tavares lives in London, still making music and working within a plethora of Brazilian music projects which include the direction of his own choirs Cantar Vocal Ensemble and Nossa Voz, as well as working with Creative Brazil, who conduct Brazilian music workshops in schools

This limited-edition official reissue has been remastered from the original ½ inch tapes and pressed to heavyweight 180g vinyl.

Off the back of their Meredith Music Festival 2019 lineup announcement, Melbourne wonky soul four-piece Karate Boogaloo have shared the second piece from their upcoming ‘KB’s Mixtape No. 2’.

This time KB gives us their flip on Mtume’s disco/R&B slow-jam “Juicy Fruit”. It’s a mid-tempo bounce, mellow and light to the touch with sprinkles of oozy synth and slide-guitar throughout.

Composed around a Linn LM-1 drum machine and recorded in under two hours, Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” has had a lasting impact on the R&B and hip-hop scene with over 100 listed sample uses of the track. Most famously used in Notorious B.I.G’s 1994 hit “Juicy”, Keyshia Cole’s “Let It Go”,  Warren G’s “This D.J” & in Grand Theft Auto’s radio shows.

Following on from the cult success of ‘KB’s Mixtape No. 1’ - songs that were sampled into your favourite hits -, ‘Mixtape No. 2’ expands this theme with songs from the 80s that were sampled into your favourite hits! Out September 27 via Hopestreet Recordings.

Making up the rhythm section of long-time Melbourne soul favourites The Cactus Channel, KB consistently sit in their own lane – the combination of raw musicianship and sheer time on the clock in the studio and on stage gives them a glowing connection rarely seen. Making records, they follow their own rules; recording and mixing on tape with no plugins and no edits, releasing exclusively in mono.
