Santino Surfers releases his third single 'Keep Shining On You', taken from his forthcoming debutalbum.

Santino Surfers walks the sunny latitudes of guitar music legacy to concoct an amorphous blend of chilled-out, soulful, and melodically lavish material. Imagine twangy 60’s black and white guitars splashed with neon color and dusty country rock curls in distorted gleam.

The ‘surf’ sound is prevalent throughout the work (hence the name), setting the dial at laid back, grooving and liberated moods that probe the frontiers of the psychedelic. The music is mostly instrumental with occasional visits by vocals and vocoders.

A few more singles will follow, leading up to a full-length album release on Music For Dreams. Special thanks to Koda Kultur & Musikforlæggerne for supporting this project.

Amongst the 20 classics is Kenneth’s tune 'What's My Name (Album Disco Edit)' featuring speak from Danish actor Sofie Gråbøl. You’ll also find DJ Disse’s wonderful interpretation of ‘Walk On the Wild Side’ by Lou Reed, a cover that’s sure to set the mood.

Shelley Short’s ‘Coo Coo Bird’ remixed by Rødsten & Jesper Rummenigge is one of the compilation’s up-tempo tunes. Kenneth makes you sway right into ‘Rain’ by Cantoma – that might seem like an unpleasant thing... it’s really not!

‘Drømmen’ by the deceased extraordinary percussionist Jacob Andersen aka. Bongo Entp. is also included delivering splendid percussion as always, and a huge sounding brass section.

Roman Flügel – third take. Hot on the heels of "Brian Le Bon" and the "Desperate Housemen EP", the man like Roman IV, Soylent Green and Alter Ego’s spectacled half supplies four tracks of heavenly proportions. Ramona doesn’t even know where to start with her eulogy, but at the start. The EP opener "O.T.H." feels like a time travel to bleepy Sheffield and dreamy Detroit while wearing the equipment of today. Same goes for "Girls With Status" that acts as a mellow 808 yet straight forward counter part to the Balearic beach grip hop that is "Thank You Jack". Crowning all that is the gurning bass line reverie of "Cookie Dust" that will leave you and your favourite DJ top and speechless. Enough descriptions! What’s left to say? Oh yes, this record had Gerd Janson salivating – and he won’t be the only one.

Southern Shores - Music From Other Places, Vol. 2

"Obeah Woman" is one of the standout cuts on Nina Simone's classic 1974 album It Is Finished which is today considered one of her finest, particularly by diggers, Djs and producers. A dark, tribal, elemental yet celebratory field chant. Originally written by Exuma aka Tony Mckay, it possesses powers and potential that are very inspiring and we can hear, feel and experience those powers of inspiration in Nickodemus' incredible new reworking and its two remixes by Kiko Navarro and Buscrates. New Orleans' Cole Williams does the vocal honors and she manages to honor Nina by channeling her urgency without aping her sound or style, instead putting her own contemporary stamp on it. 

The main mix has a simultaneous mix of funky elegance and existential tension derived primarily from Cole's vocals which seem to cry out in the night. Kiko Navarro's mix ups the tempo and the tension by moving the song into Afrobeat/house territory and emphasizing the cultural roots of what the song's lyrics were always about to begin with, even as it transforms into a thoroughly contemporary dancefloor scorcher. Buscrates takes a different approach altogether by effortlessly placing the song at the nexus of 80s R&B and 90s Acid Jazz, creating a slice of vintage-synth downtempo heaven that conjures images of a nighttime city skyline and of the different things that happen within it on any given night...be they good or not-so-good. Turntables on the Hudson is confident that we have treated such sacred territory with the respect and reverence it's due while at the same time honoring the questing spirit that characterizes Nina Simone's work.

Ron Poznansky and Daniel Terndrup met in a high school classroom specially designed for kids who have trouble paying attention to boring stuff. They immediately joined forces in the pursuit of adventure, hiking through the Santa Monica Mountains to collect top secret data on benevolent wildlife, mycological oddities and abandoned earth stations. They soon parlayed their overactive minds into making music, drawing inspiration from post punk, house, funk and the vast cosmos. Their remix roll-call includes Holy Ghost!, The Rapture, Poolside, JOTS, Princeton, Superhumanoids, Harvard Bass, and many more. They currently have a single out on "Throne of Blood" which received praise from Resident Advisor and XLR8R, and radio play on KCRW, WXPN, and BBC Radio 1. Ron and Dan are always working on tons of cool stuff, so expect new remixes, and a full EP in the near future.

So far....this profile has been used only for modern "field recordings".  In the future I hope to produce original tracks.
