Solenoid is back with SLN019, this time Label owner Erta Ale shares the sides with the welcomed Italian duo we.amps. Connection, vibrations and affinity - all aspects that bring together a remarkable release between the two producers. 'Suck my/ Oblivious' is the perfect example of the meaning of connection and keeping true to one's own “style”.
'Drummy ya' is the essence of being eclectic and simultaneously dance floor oriented . A stormy chord combined with a twisty acid melody that clashes on the unexpected vocal break, moving onto the second part of the track where a stormy loop becomes raw and gritty yet arranged in an intentional and accurate manner.
'Suck my' is fast and "break" with a 4/4 beat making the arrangement experienced , at the same time , the electro baseline with the deep male vocal, throws the listener into its vortex of sound.
Side B showcases Erta's experimental breakbeat track “Oblivious” , perfect for a sophisticated dance floor or a radio podcast.
The last track “Odyssey” is one of the most intimate and hypnotic tracks by the record label owner. An atmospheric and even sentimental track which was created during his last South African tour.

Willem Wolfe continues to stun with his multi and cross-genre experimental style with the new 6-track album, "Omakase." From the start, Wolfe takes you on an emotive journey with subtle, synth-heavy tune "Hot Towel," while the following track - "Smoked the Edamame" - incorporates some of the same synth tunes for a darker, dubby, and deeper reimagining. Then comes "Tobiko Bubblebath" with a lighter, positive energy, heavily processed vocals, and bright keys. By the time we reach the center of the record, "Chashu San" has picked up the pace. Containing a darker 2-step energy, this leads us nicely into the single, "Hamachi Coma," which is an uplifting, effect-heavy ode to classic French house and deep house, fully equipped with a silky and driving vocal sample. While still in-line with the rest of the album, the concluding track - "Toro 2-Step" - incorporates the kicks and hi-hats of traditional footwork. In a Rashad-like style, Wolfe caps "Omakase" with a number that proves this album truly is a several course meal.

If you decide to look up the strict definition of outsider in any dictionary, you'll find that the term is understood as "a person who is not involved with a particular group of people or organization or who does not live in a particular place".

Perhaps this is the most accurate description of Santiago Merino. For a long decade and from his native Medellín, this DJ and producer has always tried to keep his sonic spectrum open. An interdisciplinary artist capable of freely navigating through a myriad of genres is rarely encountered, and that may be the reason why Santiago enjoys a non-negotiable respect in the different scenes that make up the music circuit of his city.

On this occasion, Back Door Records is pleased to serve as host to receive one of the most anticipated facets within the range of music produced by this Colombian artist. The Outsider marks the debut of a new project signed by Merino, a new hunch in which house takes the helm of an EP entitled 4 Club Use.

Composed of five tracks, 4 Club Use seems to show us the true essence behind a genre that has almost been trivialized over the years. In this case, El Outsider decided to take the basic ingredients of tech house to produce a recipe much richer in flavors, textures and melodies. "Fire People", for example, leaves the window open for the airs of Detroit techno to come in and cool off any sunny afternoon. "Outsider" and "The Heat", on the other hand, are seasoned by the purest amen breaks, as if it were a blessing intended solely for the dance floor.

But the real deal across 4 Club Use is definitely El Outsider's own edit of Merino's track "Those Days". Raw and forceful kicks, meticulously sampled vocals and pads that seem to wrap them magically, make this bomb one of the candidate tracks to take the absolute podium of 2023.

Fresh from DOTT’s “Puppy Luv EP” and Rudoh’s “Vinland In Space EP”, Jugaar Records is back and this time with a full-length, double-pack vinyl, and digital compilation bringing together friends from Asia and Europe. The record is testament to the healthy place the Asian electronic music landscape finds itself in and those intrepid producers who are willing to explore new scenes and sounds.
It's energy-crew from the off - with UK beatmaker Joe Koshin’s “Astro Wax”, a techy electro work-out that conjures images of futuristic cityscapes and dense urban mazes. Up next, Pakistan-born and label co-boss Rudoh maintains the electro vibe with cut-up hip-hop vocals sprinkled on top of a pulsating bassline in his “KOF”. His records are being picked up by global tastemakers from Emerald to Roza Terenzi to DJ Masda. Don’t sleep!
Moving to the B-side, German-born, London mainstay Voigtmann shuffles and deals a steppy drum pattern and intricate synth-work, with a bassline drenched in that particular brand of funk to get the party going even at the most ungodly hour. Observatory resident Nic Ford closes this disk with an ambient excursion that summons spiritual rave voices from the deep laid atop a lilting synth loop. It’s typical of his ambient performances which have gained much notoriety in Vietnam of late.
Opening the second record is Egyptian gem Hassan Abou Alam whose recent outings on Naïve and Banoffee Pies have gained him much and well-deserved attention. Here, his “Gloom” combines twinkling IDM modes with heavy sub-bass experiments primed to stop the most idiosyncratic dancefloors in their tracks.
Up on C2, the Version, 3024 and Phonica Records graduate Yak adds breaks to the equation. His “Disk Full” brings together a haunting gated synth and razor-sharp beat programming to devastating effect. Melbourne based, Salt Mines Records honcho Shedbug concludes this side with his hopeful “A Lil Piece” whose soaring synth line will hit all the right emotional chords at all the right times.
On the final side Bangkokian Chalo reminds us why he is one of the masters of this increasingly fully formed scene. His Depth Charge is a muggy dub-laden, electro jam capable of rattling the weightiest sound systems in some of the most twisted raves at the end of some of the darkest Sois.
The record is completed by New Delhi linchpin and Boxout.fm resident Monophonik, whose techno/electro “Tumbi” journeys out of the night into a euphoric sunrise moment that will be setting the dancefloors.

PREMIERE | Shedbug - A Lil Piece [Jugaar Records] 2023

Scott Ferguson came to house and techno in one of its most fertile grounds - Detroit, in the mid 90s. Since then he has served up his own take on the timeless genres on a range of quality labels. Now he arrives on Chateau Chepere with four more of his stylish cuts. They are couched in deep house as always but with cues taken from future jazz, garage and plenty in between. These are real winter warmers that will seduce an early evening crowd or lock in a 5 am dance floor in equal measure.
