Time in reverse is still time. Emotion backwards is still felt. They came together without much prep but what came out felt whole, totally complete.

Neil Rankin on bass, Sean Dunal on drums, James Harris on keys, Chris Evans on guitar and Josh Reichmann singing his songs with intensity and grace.

Behold, Golden Gate of the Ecliptic, a meeting in rhythm that was unlikely. Somehow, a most resonant musical happening, one night in Toronto, ensued.

These four songs were initially written by Josh for various solo explorations. Cosmic in lyrical content, pulsing and funky in beat yet open and loose enough for a wide array of interpretation. The tunes were indeed reinterpreted by the adjoining musicians who found their usual groove and rhythmic cohesion easily. The songs flower with a jazz-like freedom into realms that straddle garage rock, the grittier end of funk and psychedelia but all the while hold steady to their assertive rhythmic pulse.

The tracks were recorded live off the floor with no ensuing overdubs, subjected to a concise mix by Louie Short through a vintage reel-to-reel tape deck and then mastered by Nick Kozub. What you hear is raw, energetic and more than the sum of its parts.

Bubbling under the bog water comes a murky oneiric vision from an astralopithecus... a primitive psychonaut lost in a realm of their own creation.

The result is a collection of spring peepers to keep you aerated and elated. A miasma of plasmatic echoes prepared with care over many blood moons.

Cydux (@user-952505195), the alter alias of Cosmic Resonance's @hemingway, embodies James' love of rave and reve—music for slumber or sprints. To add that special something, Cosmic Resonance alum Nic Fields aka @innertouch brings their own teamwerk into the mix, adding extra ripples to the pond.

Breathing Puddles EP - Cydux (Previews)

We're excited to announce our latest release 'Muck', a collection of ambient electronic undulations performed live by Canadian artist JFM. These recordings were later heightened by several vocal collaborators. Using a walkman, a speaker, and a recorder, their vocal parts were transplanted and re-amplified in various locations in the rural areas surrounding the barn where the songs were created. The end result is a warm and pastoral vibe that reflects its organic setting.

Muck EP - JFM (Previews)

WeTurnToRed (a.k.a. Shamanta Chandran - https://on.soundcloud.com/vw1Ny) is a Syrian-born Tamil-Canadian producer/DJ/singer/songwriter and scientist based in Toronto, Canada. Her deep love for electronic music was ignited after her older brother introduced her to the mid-90s Toronto rave scene. Having experimented in the studio for over a decade, delving into melodic nuances of modular and analog synths, it was clear that growling basslines and haunting melodies were the subjects of her affection.

Rogue Planet is about feeling like an "other," like a planet ejected by its host planetary system. It is a personal journey encapsulating Shamanta's South Asian roots and influences. Visuals are by internationally-known artist & muse Rajni Perera, "a painter and sculptor known for exploring how power works through the imagery of science fiction." The album reflects Shamanta's early life experience as a South Asian immigrant who has journeyed from the Middle East to North America, living in several different cities along the way. Adapting spiritual influences of the past, it seeks to preserve cultural relics in a future unknown. It features her 90-year-old aunt's Indian Carnatic vocals along with hers, connecting the generational gap.

Syrinx Music steps up with its first 2024 release, in the form of a new EP from Paris-area producer lucieter. In the course of its four tracks, emerge submerges the listener in sonic landscapes reflective of Lucie Ternisien’s aesthetics. Taking cues from her works in visual arts, lucieter’s music feels both oneiric and poetic, with atmospheres switching from the menacing tones of “les Ciels” to the soothing vibes of “Libellule”.

Soundwise, emerge hints towards ambient, experimental & leftfield music, as well as dub techno and IDM in their more cinematic and evocative aspects. lucieter seamlessly melts her own voice with field recordings, organic sounds & synthetic waves, to create tracks that display a distinct sense of the narration. Each of these four tunes feels like a canvas for lucieter’s poetry to hover above, yet the vocals occupy the same space as all the other sound components: Lucie Ternisien’s whispers, fragmented, pitched, or echoed words act as expressive pieces of sounds, designed to carry each track’s pictures and emotions.

emerge seems to mirror its artwork: it feels both blurred and deeply emotional, with very different elements blending in cohesive, nostalgic vignettes. Its release goes along with a video representation of “Libellule”, as well as a companion poem.

Rapidly following the cinematic avant-croon of his 'Executioner' single  from David “Egyptrixx” Psutka’s Halocline Trance label, polymorphous Hamilton, ON producer Aaron Hutchinson returns with his debut LP, Potion Shop.

This concise eight song collection is aptly named, given the eccentric and intoxicating stylistic concoction it serves to unsuspecting listeners. Ostensibly a vehicle for songs by a diverse cast of guests (spanning everything from ethereal folk to esoteric rhymes, from sunburnt soul to lysergic lullabies), Hutchinson’s distinctive and decidedly psychedelic arrangements tie it all together. Crisp wind arrangements crawl forth from thick synth haze; 808 drums rain down on choruses of birds, and muffled
pianos meander past distended, muck-encrusted drum samples.

Potion Shop’s extensive list of collaborators speaks to the wildly varied nature of Hutchinson’s rich musical life. It includes contributions from Hamiltonian vocal protagonist Sarah Good, Benita Whyte of Persons, Doom Squad’s Allie Blumas, pre-eminent MC Emay, celebrated musician and slam poet Ian Keteku, and even Kirk Starkey of classical fusionists Quarteto Gelato. The record will be available on LP, CD, and in digital formats, but visual artist Eccina has also crafted an interactive and thoroughly hallucinatory landscape that can be downloaded to offer listeners complement to the album.

Hutchinson has been a vital contributor to his hometown’s burgeoning underground music community. He co-founded the recently-defunct venue HAVN (Hamilton Audio Visual Node) which was touted by Vice as “the Best DIY Venue in Hamilton” in 2015. He also spearheaded their in-house label whose roster included Eucalyptus whose Kick It Till You Flip It was one of Magnet Magazine’s best Jazz releases of 2019. In addition to winning several local prizes including the Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize in Music, Jazz Recording of the year from the Hamilton Music Awards, and an Emerging Artist in New Media (Hamilton Arts Awards), he’s a member of several crucial Hamilton outfits. There’s the FX-mangled free-jazz duo Eschaton, whose Arachnidiscs tape Torus sees them collaborating with Matt Tavares and Leland Whitty of Bad Bad Not Good. Meanwhile in the vibrant jazz-fusion/ hip-hop anomalies Haolin Munk, he acts as drummer and producer. Hutchinson also been heard collaborating with everyone from fried dance music denizen JFM to sleek electro-pop songstress Allie X, not to mention the likes of Lea Bertucci, Ellis, Zoon, YlangYlang, and Daniel Romano.

Pop the cork on Potion Shop and drink it down for an all-too-fleeting trip across a musical terrain that’s disorienting but also warmly familiar.
