Rounding out the month of May, Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Amir Telem back to the label for his debut EP. Famed for releases via EIN2, Harabe, Kindisch and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Israeli artist Amir Telem has continued to delight fans with his unique take on organic house and melodic house & techno. His spiritual creations have also found a place on Movement Recordings, with two appearances on the label's popular 'Technical Progress' series. Now returning to Movement for his first and much anticipated EP, Amir unveils 'Goloka', alongside remixes from Ruben Karapetyan and Da Luka & Jorgio Kioris.
Providing the lone interpretation of 'Goloka' is Ruben Karapetyan who returns to the label for his sixth appearance. Having reinvigorated his career following a ten-year hiatus, Armenian born, USA based artist Ruben Karapetyan has found favour amongst progressive music tastemakers and fans alike. His ethno-inspried take on the genre has flourished on Movement Recordings, with six originals and one remix released across the last eighteen months. Now, following standout offerings via Balkan Connection and Mango Alley, Ruben returns to Movement with a groovy take on 'Goloka'. Taking inspiration from the original, Ruben flexes his free-thinking muscles and crafts a version that lands comfortably between the surreal and exotic. Neatly manicured percussion and a smooth, hip-swinging groove set the course for layers of harmonic colour, which ultimately provides a bridge into the main break. Coming to full fruition across the centrepiece, tension rises through dancing arps, grandiose chord changes and drum driven drama, while never letting go of its tranquil vibration and smoothly pushing onwards to a glowing, vocal infused finale.

My daughter Cienna had her first day of kindergarten. She walked in like it was nothing. Meanwhile, I’m standing there realizing oh crap… these are the good old days and they’re already happening. Cue dad tears.

This remix grew out of that moment. It leans on a Tinlicker track we’ve had blasting in the family playlist for a year. The vocal is from Fontella Bass, a criminally underrated soul singer from the ’60s who sang backup for David Bowie and still somehow isn’t a household name. Her voice is raw, honest, and basically does all the emotional heavy lifting for me here.

I also borrowed a little flavor from Jody Wisternoff’s The Bridge (another family playlist classic). So yeah—it’s basically a Frankenstein love-letter built out of all the music we live with every day.

The cover photo? Snapped by me at the Venetian in Vegas, just before my 41st birthday. Because what says “sentimental dad” better than crying at kindergarten drop-off and then gambling in the desert?

Anyway—melodic house with a soulful feel. Crafted with intention, fueled by dad feelings, and best enjoyed on your own family playlist (existential crisis optional).

Phunklife's subtle voice and Emi's touch of Alex O'Rion's Original "Do It Twice" melt together so well, it's hard to believe it's even a remix. Beautiful strings & pads combined with a light groove bring this up to the dream-category of music. What a real beauty we have today as our Premiere!

The unstoppable Dear Deer Records rolls out another fresh slice of essential house music, this time with Malandra Jr behind two originals and James Gill and Alex Kaspersky remixing. 

This Italian artist is a lover of classical music culture, poetry and is formally trained on the piano. He played in various orchestras and ensembles and brings that real emotion, class and musicality to his grooves. 

First up here is Millennium, seven spine tingling minutes of deep house with sombre chords and loose percussion all making a fantastically mature and sophisticated atmosphere. Shamans is a percolating, darkened deep house track that has haunting chords dangling above the rubbery bass synth. Elegant lead lines then ring out during the breakdown and the whole thing oozes celestial charm. 

James Gill remixes Millennium into an even more smooth and serene melodic tech number that casts a spell on you and has drifting vocals and swaying drums all bringing real class. Last of all, Alex Kaspersky layers in stepping bass lines, loosens up the groove and is sure to get the club on its toes and moving to the next level with his uplifting moods. 

This is a fantastic EP of truly majestic deep house sounds.

EDGE ushers in the 2019 summer season by welcoming Sahar Z and Vic F to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from the progressive house hotbed of Tel Aviv, Sahar Z has been a fixture of his country's electronic underground for over two decades. As an artist on influential imprints such as Balance Music, Bedrock, Lost & Found and microCastle, Sahar has firmly etched his place in the genre's history. Newcomer Vic F was introduced to the world through the duo's debut collaboration 'Ollie'. Released in March of 2018 on UK behemoth Anjunadeep, it's joyous, summery sounds were a staple in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, Guy Mantzur and Khen. Now coming together for just their second ever project, Sahar Z and Vic F land on EDGE with 'Whispers in The Dark'. 

Spread across three tracks it's the mystical charm of 'Whispers In The Dark' that gets the journey underway. Anchored by dulcet beats, hypno-grooves and sultry rhythmic structures, it's a production that flows through a myriad of vocal motifs. Cross cultural in ethos and dramatic in delivery; it's spirited wails, tantalizing tones and meditative arps form a free flowing narrative which delivers it's spiritually uplifting message.

The release continues in fine fashion with the exquisite vibes of 'Guts Over Fear'. Beginning with smooth bass stabs, acidic designs and drone-like atmospheres, it's effortless cadence powers forward, while layers of drums assemble in a lush organic space. Surreal and dream like, sonic artefacts and hazy harmonics trail across the framework, before a gaseous interlude effortlessly shifts energy into a glowing finale. 

Rounding out the collection is 'Spinner' which finds Sahar & Vic crafting their own unique brand of cosmic funk. Esoteric and groovy, it showcases the more techno inspired side of the duo's repertoire. It's rhythmic affinity becomes infectious as laser-like lines, percussive waves and a spoken word storyboard unite over perfectly contoured bass and buzzing electronics. Replete with mystical qualities, it's a heady finale to a stunning collection of music from Sahar and Vic, one which furthers the duo's studio synergy moving forward into the future.

Grum’s ‘Deep State’ transmissions resume...
Conspiracy theories have been running wild around the disappearance of Graeme Shepherd a.k.a. Grum’s second (or is that third) artist L.P. ‘Deep State’. Announced late in 2018, the album vanished. While he cannot confirm nor deny some of the more colourful conjecture around the album’s withdrawal, Grum and Anjunabeats are pleased to announce that ‘Deep State’ is back, rewired and reinvigorated for 2019.

Reflecting the unsettling times we live in, ‘Deep State’ has moments of light and dark. It’s a showcase of Grum’s ability to craft pitch-black progressive and immersive vocal pop. The 10-track album is a refined take on the current state of progressive trance.

A throwback to the riff-heavy rave sounds of the 90s, the first broadcast from ‘Deep State’ is ‘Stay’. As heard on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats Volume 14 mix compilation, this saturnine warehouse cut was a popular set opener this summer. ‘Stay’ features a haunting vocal from British singer Nathalie Shay, who you can also hear on ‘Afterglow’.
