The brainchild of frontman Liam McCormick, The Family Crest began as a recording project in 2009 with co-founder/bassist John Seeterlin. “We always liked making music with people—getting a bunch of people together and singing. So we put ads everywhere,” says McCormick. “We posted on Craigslist and emailed old friends from school.” The outcome was greater than the original duo imagined, with 80 people credited on the first recording the band produced. From that a seven-piece core band emerged, though the Crest boasts over 400 “Extended Family” members.

Genius is an overused term. Often by me. Maybe even on these posts… But Cosmo lives up to it. 

It would be enough to create an experimental record including the sonic representation of the electromagnetic “clangs” that a new day brings on this Earth. It would be enough to create lush folk-tronic beats out of slates falling from mountains. It would be enough to write densely imaginative, hallucinogenic sound poems. But to do all of this, in one song, and wrap it in melodies that you’ll be humming all day. That’s special.

This early unreleased demo of his debut 7” “The Moss” on our ‘paradYse’ imprint is radically different from the final version, but leads you down the rabbit hole all the same.

We continue the adventure with Cosmo, with a new EP, with further details announced shortly.
